"Do you trust me?" Darcy asked and let go of Tara so they were standing face to face.
Tara stared at her for a few seconds before nodding slowly. Darcy smiled. "Good, because I need you to believe me, okay? I love you so much, okay? Nothing in this world will ever change that."
Tara nodded again.
"I promise that nothing will happen to you, that you'll never lose me. Okay? Nothing will ever make me leave your side, I swear it. I will always be there for you and I will always protect you and-"
"I love you too, Darce." Tara cut her off. She knew Darcy didn't mean to scare her but she did. She was being too honest and it terrified Tara.

Darcy nodded and leaned forward to press their foreheads together. "Promise me." She said softly. Tara closed her eyes and nodded.
"I promise."
Darcy pulled away slightly to grab both of Tara's hands in hers. "And I will do everything in my power to keep us together."
Tara laughed wetly, tears streaming down her face. Darcy wiped the moisture from Tara's cheeks with the pad of her thumb. "Come here, babe." She pulled Tara toward her and wrapped her arms around her, holding her tight.
Tara buried her head in the crook of Darcy's neck. She felt safe. Safe in the arms of someone who loved her unconditionally.

"I'm so scared, Darce."
"I know." Darcy murmured, running a finger through Tara's hair soothingly.
Tara sighed. "Can we stay like this for awhile? she mumbled against Darcy's collarbone. Darcy kissed Tara's temple.
"Of course we can. Let's go back inside. We don't want to miss dinner."

The next few days after they came back from France were a blur. For Tara that was because she was too nervous and tired and confused to do much beyond sleep and eat.

For Darcy it was because every time she looked at Tara she just wanted to kiss her or hold her or something. It was overwhelming and distracting. And Darcy hated to admit it but part of her was jealous too. She wished she could be able to touch Tara all the time, to be able to feel her skin under her fingertips to see her smile when she said something Darcy had said, and most importantly, to hear her laugh and not have to worry about how ridiculous it sounded coming out of her mouth when she wasn't smiling herself.
That was the other thing though; she needed Tara happy.
This was just how things were going to be.

There was no point in feeling anything but happiness.

That was what Darcy had spent a year perfecting, making sure the brunette girl felt at peace and content, knowing without a doubt that Darcy would always be willing to put Tara first. Even now, as she held Tara close to her chest and stroked her hair while she slept, Darcy didn't think there was anything that Tara wouldn't do for her.

She'd been doing that for years. Ever since they met. Ever since Tara had come into her life and changed everything.
Darcy couldn't remember a time when she hadn't been in love with Tara.
It was hard to explain. It was like a feeling that grew stronger each day, until she felt like she was drowning and she couldn't breathe and then all of a sudden she could breathe again. Like when you'd been drowning in water and suddenly someone else was taking care of you.

So yeah, Darcy loved Tara. A lot.
