After an hour, Dallas invited Johnny and I to go and see a movie with him like the good old days. Darry doesn't let me leave the house on school nights but because it's the weekend I'm aloud to leave the house but I have to be back by twelve. Dallas told us to meet him at the corner so we could head to the movies, but we were early so we walked around for a little bit. I couldn't get into any trouble with the cops because the court would split use up in a heartbeat if I did. SodaPop and I try to stay out of trouble so we don't get split up because I would be put in a boys home. When we went to the movies it was like a drive in so it wasn't going to the movie house or anything. Johnny and I sat there a smoked a cigarette well Dally was flirting with a redhead that was siting in front of us. I hate when Dally flirts with every girl that he sees. It really gets me going. Johnny got up to go get a coke. Then all of a sudden the redhead yells,
"Get lost hood!" Dallas looks at her dumb founded for a minute and replies,
"God I didn't know you had a problem with yelling in my face. Can I interest you in a coca cola or a seven up......."
"Get outa here!" The redhead yells.
"Alright I'll go, I know I'm not wanted." Dallas replied.
The redhead turns around and looks at me and says,"Are you going to start in on us too."
"No," I replied.
"My name is Sherri but everyone calls me Cherry because of my hair, what's yours?" Cherry asked.
"My name in is PonyBoy Curtis. I have a brother named SodaPop. It even says so on his birth certificate," I answer just as Johnny was coming back from getting a coke and Dally was following him with popcorn and three cokes. Dally hands the popcorn to me, one coke to Cherry's best friend Marcia, and the second coke to Cherry. Then Dally sat down next to Cherry and Cherry throws the coke at Dallas.
"That's what you get for not leaving me alone. Get off! Of me! Get off!" Cherry yells. Then Johnny tells Dally,"Dal leave her alone, man."
"What did you say, you little punk!' Dallas yells back.
"Come on man," Johnny replies with a scared sound in his voice. Then Dally gets up and walks away.
"Thank you. He had us scared to death," Cherry says after Dallas left.
"You sure didn't show it," Johnny said.
"I try not to show it in front of greasers," she replies. Socs try not to show emotion besides being mad or aggravated, but Socs don't cry with greasers or around strangers. Greasers don't cry around Socs or around strangers. It's just our thing or like you don't cry around Dallas or Darry.
"Why don't you come sit with us so you can protect us," Marcia said.
"Sure," Johnny said to me. Then Two-Bit walks up behind Johnny and scares him. Johnny got white as a ghost.
"Really Two-Bit! You know I don't like being scared," Johnny told Two-Bit.
"Sorry man, I forgot. Oh, where's Dallas?" Two-Bit asked.
"Yeah, where is Dally?" Tim Shepard asked.
"He left Tim I swear," I said nervously.
"Well I know he popped my tire," Then Tim walked away. That was a close one I thought.
"Does Dal have a blade?" Two-Bit asked.
"No I don't think so." Johnny answer quietly.
"Good Tim will fight fair as long as he don't. So what are we doing after the movie?" Two-Bit asked.
"I don't know,man maybe bring these girls home." Johnny said.
"Sure you guys can bring us home it doesn't madder." Cherry said.
"Hey Pony, come with me to get so cokes and some popcorn?" Cherry ask me.
"Yeah, you all want some?" I asked.
"Yeah I'll have some and Johnny will to. I'm paying." Two-Bit said giving Pony the money. They when to get the cokes and popcorn and then came back and watched the rest of the movie. Two-Bit and Marcia were talking through the whole movie and it really bugged me because I couldn't get in the movie like I alway do. Johnny just sat there quietly because I think when was nervous or even scared. Dal was probably in a fight with Tim by now and probably had a some broken bones or even ribs if that. Cherry was silent and trying to watch the movie but Two-Bit and Marcia were just chatting up a storm and they ain't to quite about it either you could hear what they were saying through the whole movie. Then the movie finally ended and they were still talking up a storm even after.
