I open my eyes Friday morning before my alarm even had a chance to wake me. I was excited. Today was the Boy's basketball state championship and together, Ice and Joseph had all but carried the team on the promised land, an unprecedented feat among varsity freshmen sports. At this point, their names were known by everyone in both the school and the surrounding urban area as the news reverberated through all of Savannah. Everyone was going to be at this game today just to get a look at the affectionately known"Fire and Ice".
Their road wasn't easy but the boys were always around each other and their work ethic was unmatched. If Ice wasn't around me, or in class, he almost always is found with Joseph either in the weight room lifting or in the gym working on their game together. As a result, their chemistry was amazing and they were more than up to the challenge. On the court they seemed to always know what one another was thinking, andThis chemistry alone was enough to steamroll through the majority of the local competition. They will need more than chemistry if they hope to topple the defending state champions from the last season, who still hold a perfect record starting from the start of the previous season. They would need every bit of talent each of the boys had in their own respective play styles, and then some if they hope to steal a win as the underdog.
I quickly get out of bed walking over to my dresser in my room to grab my pair of blue skinny jeans out of the drawer. I take them back to my bed and pair them with the blue school hoodie I stole from Ice. I always wore all blue to all the major sporting events, because students were encouraged to wear the school colors. They called it the "Day of Pride." and as an athlete, it was something we all took very seriously. I hastily get showered and I walk back to my bed to get myself dressed. I stepped into each of my pant legs and to my shock, I had to damn near high jump just to get them pulled over my ass.
"Am I gaining weight?" I think to myself momentarily.
My phone starts to vibrate on my bed and the thought is summarily dismissed as I pick it up to see Harmony's name illuminated across the screen. I slide the answer button across my screen.
"Hello?"
"Hey, bitch. What you doin'?"
"It's 7:30 in the morning what the hell you think I'm doing?"
Harmony giggles.
"You getting dressed for your future baby daddy basketball game?"
"I keep telling you he's not my future baby daddy!"
I hear Harmony smacking her teeth through the receiver.
"How you know that? You can tell the future?"
"Well, No but-"
I paused because I didn't necessarily have a counter.
"Exactly bitch. Y'all about to make some cute ass babies."
"Is this why you called me Harmony? Because I get enough of your bullshit at school."
"Oh right! What you wearing to the day of pride today?"
"Um? Well I was going to wear my blue skinny jeans and Izzy's hoodie but I do-"
"Ooh Girl yes!" Harmony exclaims, cutting me off. "That ass be popping in them jeans! You better show out for yo baby!"
I feel my face get hot. I had been wearing these jeans to every one of Ice's games.
"Really?"
"Hell yea bitch! You know that ass is fat. It be popping even in gym shorts, so them skinny jeans be doing you right!"
"Why do you even be looking at my ass so much?"
Harmony laughs.
"I can't help it bitch you are fine! I would totally think about being gay for you!"
