"Come on Teetee! Izzy is gonna be here any minute!"
"Hush ya face child!" My Aunt Pamela says to me. "You just keep your eyes closed and don't rush my process I'm almost done."
I internalize my sigh to keep from moving as I feel my auntie adding the finishing touches to my face. Afterward, I feel a rush of movement as she starts packing up some of her supplies that she has littered about my dresser.
"Okay, Ceedaboo! Open your eyes!"
Teetee's been calling me that embarrassing ass nickname for as long as I can remember. I nearly roll my eyes to the floor but I stop when I catch the reflection of myself in my bedroom mirror.
"Oh my god, Teetee I look so beautiful!"
"Girl you damn right! You are killing it! And growing up way too fast please stop it actually."
My aunt Pamela is a professional cosmetologist who had flown in from New York just to do my hair, make-up, and nails. Because of her I currently look and feel like an absolute goddess. My hair was silk pressed and the curls my aunt did, flow beautifully down over my shoulders, My makeup was flawless of course, and hues of light blue complimenting my nails. They are a pristine coat of white with a blue snowflake on the nails of both ring fingers. Ice had the idea of spending some of his hard-earned cash to get us custom grills made, so my bottom row of teeth is covered in a beautiful diamond-cut row of white gold. My mother even did her part, splurging so that I could pick out the dress of my choice. After a week of searching, I ended up settling on my beautiful snow-white halter top dress. The top hugs perfectly against my body and the bottom flows elegantly around my legs and feet, all of which are brought together by a pair of silver opened-toed glitter heels. I am busy admiring my own beauty when I hear my mom's voice boom from down the steps
"Iyeisha Yale!"
"Uh uh! Don't be rushin' this child 'Chelle!" My aunt yells back. "Beauty like this can't be rushed!'
"I'm not rushing nothing I just want to see my baby!" My mother screams. "Some time today if that's okay with you!"
"That woman ain't got the patience she preach." My aunt says to me, rolling her eyes. "Gone down there and show them how beautiful you are."
I was cheesing really hard at this point.
"Thank you so much, auntie!"
I carefully get to my feet but I am stopped once more by my aunt as I turn toward the toward.
"Wait wait wait!" She says,
I look at her confused.
"What?"'
"I'm sorry I just..." Aunt pam lets out a sigh, "... Nothing I'm just being an overprotective auntie. Go get 'em Ceedaboo!"
I smack my teeth.
"Teetee that nickname is so embarrassing."
"Okay and? So what? Gone child!"
I laugh and leave out the door to my room, taking my time to walk down the hall and carefully maneuver down each individual step. Finally, I arrive in the living room. The moment my mother lays eyes on me she gasped and put her hands over her mouth.
"Aaaaaaaw my baby!" She whines. "Oh my god, I'm gonna cry! You're so grown up now!"
"Girl!" My aunt scoffs, following close behind me, "get ya shit together! Don't nobody got time for all these crocodile tears!"
"You shut the hell up Pamela!" My mother snips "Come here baby let me get some pictures of you and your dress. You are just too beautiful!"
"Thank you, mom!"
