For my watty bestie, _1_Kermit_1_
Cranepaw knew it was stupid for her to be angry. Larchpaw had just given her some answers. She tried to feel grateful. But he didn't even answer her question! She replayed the vision she had of her mother in her mind, hoping to find clues.
Cranepaw hadn't told any of her littermates about her mother. She just didn't trust them. Besides, if they were meant to know, wouldn't Starclan send them a dream like her?
Suddenly, something clicked. Her mother had been fighting off the Dark Cats with Thunderclan battle moves! That proved that she was a Thunderclan cat! Cranepaw raced off to Redstar, who was sitting in his den.
"Redstar! Redstar! This is urgent. Have any Thunderclan cats gone missing before I came to Thunderclan? Specifically she cats?" She asked hurriedly. Redstar looked quite taken aback by her dramatic outburst and entrance, but answered the question anyway.
"There were many, actually. Those times were dark. Jaggeredstar, the leader before myself, had just died and clan cats were going missing. There were three that were particularly big losses to Thunderclan, though. There was Yellowbrook, who had been clan deputy, there was Mintleaf, who was a medicine cat... and then there was one of the best warriors in the whole forest, Flamebriar. And, the worst thing was that she had kits as well! They would've been excellent warriors too, but they also went missing along with Flamebriar. A great loss to Thunderclan." Redstar answered, looking wistfully sad.
Flamebriar sounded exactly like her mother.
"And who was Flamebriar's mate?" Cranepaw asked, almost jumping in excitement. Finally, she would know the identity of her father!
"Mate? Oh... Flamebriar insisted secrecy on her mate. She never revealed who he was." Redstar answered.
Cranepaw flattened her ears and hissed in annoyance. Then she realised Redstar was watching her.
"Ok. Thank you." Cranepaw gritted her teeth and walked away. She'd just have to find who her father was by herself.
"Cranepaw! Cranepaw!" Clearpaw, Cranepaw's littermate, ran to her at full speed. She halted at the last minute.
"Yes?" Cranepaw asked.
"I got the dream. Fallingpaw did too. He doesn't seem to care about it, though. But I want to find out who our mother is." Clearpaw explained to her.
Cranepaw felt disappointed. She thought she was the special one. "Wait... it was just a dream of the battle scene of her dying?" She asked curiously.
Clearpaw nodded. "Why? Did you get more?" Clearpaw asked.
"No. Doesn't matter." Cranepaw responded, feeling pleased.
"So who are your suspects? As in, who our father might be?" Clearpaw asked.
"Well, he's a Thunderclan male, a warrior, but not too young, so maybe one of the senior warriors..." Cranepaw was interrupted by Clearpaw, who yowled in laughter.
"What is it?" Cranepaw gave her a confused look.
"What if Sunspririt is our father?" She laughed. Cranepaw and her giggled loudly and ignored the annoyed looks a few warriors gave them.
"Okay, let's make a list of the senior warriors. Sunspirit, Rushstalk, Thistlestrike, Juniperclaw, Brackenshade, Talonclaw, Leapmist-"
"Wait!!" Shrieked Clearpaw. "Leapmist was made a warrior yesterday, silly! Besides, if he was our father, he wouldn't be able to be my mate!"
