Cleardawn's p.o.v

It had been two sunrises since Cleardawn's warrior ceremony and she and Leapmist were officially mates. It was hard to talk about the prophecy since Cranefrost was caught up training Acornpaw and Snowfall was... well, Snowfall.

Cleardawn decided that they had stalled about the prophecy for too long, and that she had to tell them about the vision that Starclan had sent her. So she waited in the warriors den for them, and finally, once the sun was setting and the sky had exploded into vibrant reds, oranges and yellows, Cranefrost and Snowfall returned.

She managed to arrange a time where they would talk so that no other cat would eavesdrop- at midnight, outside.

Cleardawn settled down in her nest with a shiver of anxiety- what would Snowfall's reaction be? Would she get angry at Cleardawn? Their argument had now lasted one and a half moons, and Cleardawn was getting sick of it. But she wasn't going to say sorry.

Snowfall's p.o.v

Reluctantly, Snowfall lifted herself up from her warm, safe den. There was no moon to shine, that night. Instead, it was the stars that lead Snowfall through the camp all the way to the edge of it, where she met Cleardawn and Cranefrost.

Cranefrost sat, waiting patiently with her tail wrapped around her paws. She was sitting upright and staring right at Snowfall, which Snowfall found quite quickly.

Cleardawn, on the other hand, was pacing up and down the the clearing. Her ears flicked in annoyance and her tail was straight in the air, as if she felt urgent.

Snowfall approached the two cats, padding so quiet that she couldn't even hear herself. Cleardawn say her and settled herself down next to Cranefrost. Snowfall sat in front of them, waiting for one of the cats to address her.

The forest was in silence as the three she cats seemed to be waiting for the same thing: for a cat to start the conversation. But no one did. Talk about awkward.

Eventually, Cleardawn sighed. "Beware the Frost that has a scattered future."

Snowfall's blood turned to ice as Cleardawn recited the sentence.

"It's a line of a prophecy I received when I was hunting with Leapmist. I have no idea who the Frost is, at first I thought it was you, Cranefrost, but that doesn't make sense! I've been trying to fig-"

Snowfall sighed. She'd always known that one day she'd have to open up to her littermates, and there was no way around it. Now was the time.

"Cleardawn, Cranefrost, the prophecy is about me."

The two she cats immediately stopped their train of thoughts and stared at Snowfall in silence, waiting for a further explanation.

"Well... I kind of took a warrior assessment in the Dark Warriors, and maybe I passed, and Snipe, the leader and my mentor might have named me Frost and made me the deputy..." Snowfall muttered awkwardly, looking down at her shuffling paws.

"What was the assessment?" Cranefrost finally asked, breaking the silence.

"Umm... I had to kill a kittypet."

"AND YOU SUCCEEDED?!" Cleardawn exploded.

She bared her pointed fangs, and her lips drew back into a snarl. Her fur bristled and she lept onto her paw, glaring at Snowfall. Snowfall had never seen her this angry before. She'd always thought as Cleardawn as a calm, patient cat, and even when Snowfall and her were in the climax of their fight, she'd been quite even-tempered. But now, her eyes burned with an angry fire that roared.

Snowfall felt frightened. Cleardawn looked so angry, so powerful. Luckily, Cranefrost jumped up to her paws and stepped between the two cats.

Suddenly, Snowfall understood why Cleardawn was so angry. She was a murderer. Snowfall couldn't believe how carried away she'd gotten. The mouse-brained fight between her and Cleardawn had led her to believe she was actually one of the terrible rogues.

She'd actually killed a cat.

"I'm sorry! I was only trying to spy! But then, I got carried away, and..."

Snowfall glanced at Cranefrost and Cleardawn. Cranefrost nodded, sympathy deep in her eyes. Cleardawn looked away, not bothering with eye contact. Snowfall knew what she had to do.

"Cleardawn, I'm sorry. For everything. The prophecy reminded me which side I'm on, I promise."

Snowfall starred solemnly at Cleardawn, and the disapproving and angry fire from Cleardawn's eyes melted away. Snowfall was thankful to see that she was purring, and happiness lit up her.

"I think we should seriously talk to Redstar about teaming up with other clans to defeat the Dark Warriors. They've killed enough cats for the clans to know that they are dangerous and should be rid of." Cranefrost said.

Snowfall nodded approvingly, and said, "From now on I'll report the information I get to Aldercoat and Redstar. They should know that the Dark Warriors are going to attack."

Finally, Cleardawn brought up an important subject. Possibly the most important.

"So anyone else still wonder what happened to our mother, Flamebriar? Why isn't she in Starclan? And, also, what about that vision thing we saw at the Moonpool with Songpaw?"

Cranefrost's eyes widened. "I thought I was the only one who thought about that!"

"What if... when a cat dies, Snipe interferes so that the cat doesn't end up in Starclan, but instead becomes a Dark Warrior?" Snowfall murmured.

"It makes sense! the vision, the prophecy, everything! But then... which cat is Flamebriar?" Cleardawn looked at Snowfall expectantly.

Snowfall immediately knew who it was.

Why they had taken special interest in her. The time she had joined and overthrown the leader.

"It's Snipe." Snowfall whispered hoarsely.

"Who's Snipe?" Cleardawn asked, clearly unaffected.

"The leader of the Dark Warriors. My mentor."

A concerned and horrified look filled Cranefrost and Cleardawn's faces, and they gaped at her for a few moments.

After what seemed like moons of chilly silence, Snowfall meowed, "I'm going to go back and sleep."

The others nodded in agreement and followed Snowfall to the den of snoring warriors. They rested in their dens, Cleardawn snuggling next to Leapmist, Cranefrost settling down next to Twigfrost, and Snowfall deciding to sleep next to Adderfang...

She doubted she would actually sleep.

Disturbing thoughts swirled around in her mind, and suddenly the huge walls of the hollow oak trunk they slept in felt smaller. Snowfall felt hot and thirsty and dizzy, making it impossible for her to get the rest she needed.

She gently dug her muzzle in Adderfang's soft, long fur, overriding her senses with the comforting scent of the kind tom.

And that night, Snowfall actually got some rest.

So I planned to reveal the secret about Snipe at the very end of the book, but this chapter seemed boring, so I was like, 'Why not?'
