My heels clicking on the floor bounced off of the walls. Then I stopped, opening the door to the Slytherin common room. Quickly I head inside, looking for my tutor, Tom riddle. "Tom?" I whispered out. The eerie darkness scared me slightly. Ever since Myrtle died, everyone has been on guard. The fact she died is horrible, but the idea of who killed her is worse. Everyone knew it was Voldemort, but when another person got the blame for it, we were all surprised. Then again, he could be Voldemort. My idea ran with possibilities, but I tried to ignore it not to scare myself any further. Then I felt a cold whisper right by my ear, "Annette," I heard them begin to say, but as soon as they said one word, I quickly took out my wand, turning around and pointing it at the person.
It was Tom. I let out a breath. "Tom, you can't do that. You scared me." I said while lowering my wand, "especially right now."
He was wearing his uniform except for his robes. "Mhm, why right now?" He asked while looking down at me.
I looked at him, confused, "don't be stupid." I laughed to myself, but when I saw his expression hadn't changed, I leaned closer to him and said, "you know why?" It was more of a question than a statement.
"No, care to explain?" He said, looking down at me.
I went by his ear and said, "Voldemort." Then I backed up.
"You don't have anything to worry about; I won't kill you." He said with a straight face.
I looked at him, pausing, "what are you, Voldemort?" I asked in a quiet tone.
"Yes, I am." He said with that same blank expression he always had.
"That's not funny riddle," I said, walking to a nearby coffee table. Taking a seat on the green velvet couch, I put down a stack of books.
Shuffling them around, he sat next to me, "why are you here anyway?" He asked. Then he said, "I should take points off of Ravenclaw for you being out this late."
"I know," I looked at him. "I couldn't sleep. The test in Slughorns class is coming, and I need help." I looked at him, "you're the best at potions and never asleep, so my mind went to you to help."
"Why would I want to help you? You Ravenclaws are so stubborn; if I tried to help you, you'd probably tell me I was wrong." He said, laying down on the couch.
"Please?" I said. I looked over to see his face, "I can give you something in return?"
He sat up facing the coffee table, "like what?"
"I don't know. What do you want?" I asked.
He paused for a second to look at me. I felt some heat on my face, so I quickly took a potions book and turned to a page I needed to study, "tell me about Bueaxbatons." He said.
I looked back at him, "What do you want to know?"
I could tell he was thinking, then he said, "did you learn dark magic?"
Looking at him, I quickly said, "what kind of question is that? Of course not."
"Yeah," he said. "Of course."
After he asked me some more fundamental questions about what it was like going to school there, he agreed to help me study. We spent a few hours going through all the textbooks, and I think I had finally got it down. "So Amortentia is a love potion, and when smelled, it shows what the person is attracted to?"
"Yes," he said, highlighting a few things in my book.
"What's the reverse spell when it is drunk?" I asked.
He sighed, raking his hand over his face, "you don't even need to learn about this. We aren't doing this lesson for a few months."
"I know," I said. Shutting the book, I said, "I just want to be prepared." Taking them into my arms, I felt it was time to go. "Thank you for helping me.." I said, walking to the door but stopping before I left. I peeked my head out, looking around the corners. The darkness and creepy sounds in the dungeons were unparalleled. I looked back at tom, seeing him get up and start to walk to what I assumed were the boy's dorms.
He stopped and looked back at me "what are you waiting for?" I looked back outside and back at him with a nervous look. He looked back in confusion and disgust, "are you scared?"
I said quickly, "no." I Readjusted my grip on the books, pulling them closer to my chest. "Just give me a second..." I said, looking back out at the darkness.
I heard an annoyed sigh and then saw him walk into the hallway outside. He looked back at me, "let's go." I quickly shuffled out next to him, careful not to drop the stack of books in my hands. We walked back to the Ravenclaw common room, mostly in silence.
Suddenly Tom grabbed me and pulled me into a nearby closet. "What are you doing?" I said.
"Shut up," I heard him whisper. Then I heard footsteps outside of the door. They went down the hallway and slowly died out. My back was to him, but because of the limited space, I had to be pressed against him. My back was against his chest, and I could feel his heartbeat. I kept quiet with him. Then after what seemed like a few minutes, he peaked his eyes out. He then walked out; I hurriedly came out after him.
"That was scary," I said, giggling.
"It's not funny I almost got caught because you were too scared to walk back in the dark," he said sternly. I stayed quiet at this; he could be such an ass.
-
We had finally made it up many stairs to the common room. I ran inside, putting my things quickly down. I stretched out my fingers and arm. Carrying that stack of books had made my fingers numb. Then I looked back at Tom; he seemed to be inspecting the common room. I walked back over to him, "thank you." He looked at me without saying you're welcome. He just left. Again, he can be an ass.
