Never Too Late

Chapter 2

Bella's POV

It's been almost two weeks since we saw that vampire, we had assumed it meant that Jacob and his pack caught them. I was sitting in the living room with Rosalie and Alice, we were just talking about nothing. Renesmee was outside with Edward and Carlisle, they were testing her strength to see how much 'vampire' was in her. While I was talking to Rosalie Alice gasped and we looked at her, she was staring at the wall. We could tell she was having a vision, Edward ran in with Carlisle following close behind him.

After a few minutes Alice finally got out of the vision, she looked at me than Edward. "The Volturi know about Renesmee, they think we broke the law and turned a child. Their plan is to invite us and if we refuse they'll come here. We should get a letter today, at any moment." We all looked at each other and I looked at Rosalie, she had a worried expression. We heard the mailman pull up to the end of the driveway before leaving, I was the first to run out and grab the letter. I read it quickly, it being in nice handwriting from the Volturi. It was them inviting us to talk, signed by the kings, Aro, Caius, and Marcus.

I handed the letter to Carlisle and went inside, I was thinking to myself. I knew it had to be the vampire that saw us, I just wanted to know why they would tell the Volturi. Everyone looked at me, Edward had a worried but also an angry expression on his face. "What happened that day you went out with her? It has to be because of you, I knew I shouldn't let you near her." I glared at him and walked up to him, but Rosalie held me back. "Maybe it's because of you, Edward! You are never careful! And always taking her out to stores, and parks, it was bound to happen! Then the one day you let me be a mom to my daughter, you think it's all my fault because someone saw our daughter with a group of vampires." He let out a growl and raised his hand, but I caught it before throwing him away from me.

"We leave tonight, I will have Renesmee and I will be with Rosalie and Emmett. You get no debate in this, you can take another car." I left and packed Renesmee's bag and a couple of clothes. Rosalie grabbed Renesmee from outside and took her to her car, I headed out with Emmett behind me. He got in the back with Renesmee and I got in front with Rosalie in the driver seat. She started the car and drove off, I looked behind us and saw Edward watching us. "I can't believe him, how dare he blame you?" I looked back at Emmett, before looking at Renesmee. "Because he can never think anything is his fault, yes it was because of that day. But there is no way they would just assume that quickly, that had to have been watching us." Rosalie hummed in agreement, I looked out the window watching the trees I couldn't believe this was happening.

We arrived at the airport in ten minutes and got on Emmett's private jet, we wanted to be away from the others. Once we were set we were taking off when Edward and the rest got there, I knew he and Carlisle were pissed at me for not only taking Renessmee but also for not taking the same Plane as them. With the jet, we should get to Volterra in less than three hours. I looked at Renesmee where she was sitting with the teddy bear that Rosalie got her, it was wearing ripped jeans and a white tank top with a flannel over it. It was also holding a wrench, Renesmee was looking out the windows and at the clouds.

I smiled at her and sighed softly, I looked at Rosalie to see she was already looking at me with a soft smile. I smiled at her and looked back out the window, I wished I grabbed my book but I was in a rush and forgot it. While looking out the window I felt something plop in my lap, I looked and saw it was the book I was reading. I looked at who gave it to me and saw Emmett with a shy smile, I mouthed 'Thank you' at him and he nodded. I sat back and started reading my book, I did my best to let the book distract me but I couldn't help but let my mind wander. Before I knew it we were already in Italy, all we had to do was drive an hour and we'd be there. Knowing how Rosalie drives we'll be there in thirty minutes, the plane landed and we grabbed everything and got off once we could.

Rosalie already had a car waiting for us, we got in and she drove off. I looked around since I had never been to Italy before, I looked behind me and saw Renesmee looking around with a wide smile on her face. I could tell she was tired but was staying up to look at everything around her, I put my hand back and she grabbed onto it and so did Emmett. This caused Renesmee to start giggling loudly, I looked at Emmett who had a wide smile. We got to the point where we would have to walk, we all put hoodies on with the hood up except Renesmee. Rosalie parked the car and we got out, I held Renesmee's hand as Rosalie walked us to a beautiful vintage castle.

She went in and we followed behind, instantly we were greeted by guards wearing long black cloaks. They looked at us but mainly focused on Renesmee, I pulled her close to my side. "Follow us, the kings wanna see you." We followed them and went to an elevator, they took us down to the lowest level. We stepped off and walked through a long hallway before stopping at big doors, they knocked before opening them. We walked in and saw the three throne-like chairs, sitting in them were what I assumed were the kings. Renesmee hid behind my back and gripped onto my hoodie, the one in the middle stood up and looked around. "Where are the others?" Rosalie cleared her throat, making him look at her. "We came separate, King Aro. They should be here soon, any minute actually. There was a lot of tension at the mention of you knowing of miss Renesmee, so to not only keep us safe to be able to come here we had to come separately." He nodded and sat back down, in less than a minute the others walked in. I stayed close to Emmett, not wanting to be near Edward.

Edward glared at me and Aro got up, walking over to him. "Edward, how nice to see you again. I can see that you seem angry at the woman holding the creature, is this your wife?" Edward nodded and looked at him, "Yes king Aro, she is my wife, Bella." He hummed and held his hand out, Edward put his hand in his. Aro's expression changed from nothing to intrigued, he looked at me and held out his hand for me. I put my hand in his and he started laughing, I pulled it away and held Renesmee closer. "I can't see her, that's definitely odd you must have a shield." I nodded and he looked at Renesmee, his expression then became cold. "Cullens, you have broken a very big law. You have turned a child, you know how we feel about that." He clapped his hands together and two more guards came in, their hoods covering their faces.

They stood by Aro and took off their hoods, I looked at them both but the world felt like it slowed down when I made eye contact with the blonde female guard. She looked at me and instantly stopped, we stared into each other's eyes before she was nudged by the guard next to her. She looked away and looked at Renesmee, her expression also going cold. "Jane hurt the child and the brunette vampire. Let's make them learn their lesson," I pulled Renessmee behind me and waited, I looked at Jane and she was looking at me and Aro. "No, sir Aro. I can't do that, I apologize." He looked at her with a shocked expression, he looked at the guard next to her and nodded.

"Wait! I didn't turn her, we didn't. I gave birth to her when I was human, Edward is her biological father. I was turned after giving birth to her, as my heart had stopped. She is both me and Edward, we don't know how it was possible but it was. Renesmee can prove it, you can hear her heartbeat and see the pink in her cheeks." Aro and the rest of the guards looked at me, he laughed but held his hand out for her. She went up to him and whispered 'Lower' he got lower and she put her hand against his cheek, his eyes went wide, and he backed away from her. "They aren't lying, the girl showed me." The blonde king scoffed and stood up, "It's impossible!" Aro turned to him and glared, "You think they fooled us?" The blonde sat back down and went silent, knowing it was basically impossible for us to lie.

I looked back at Jane who was looking at Renesmee, she walked up to us and kneeled down in front of her. "Can I see?" Renesmee smiled feeling relaxed with her, she put her hand against Jane's cheek. Jane jumped a little by the warmth from her hand, Jane's eyes softened. Renesmee took her hand away and went back over to me, Jane stood up and looked at me than Edward. She glared at him, causing him to kneel and groan in pain. Aro looked at her, "Jane stop, they did nothing wrong." She stopped and looked at him. "She showed me how Edward treats both her and her mother, he is awful to them. He has manipulated his wife's mind into thinking they are mates when it isn't true!" Aro looked at him and then at Jane, he held Jane's hand and sighed.

"Jane that does make some things complicated, you have mated to Mrs. Bella." Edward growled and went to attack Jane but I pinned him to the floor. I felt Rosalie pull me off of him, she took me over to Jane and Aro. "Edward you know better, we will have the queens prove that the bond you claim to Bella is a lie. Now leave not only Bella but Jane alone, any mistake you make you will suffer the consequences.
