Never Too Late

Chapter 7

I waited for Jake and his pack to arrive, I had sent a jet to them knowing they couldn't afford the plane tickets. I knew they would be here soon, but I was on edge. If Carlisle doesn't show himself I will be forced to make him, whether that means killing Esme or not. Though I do wonder if she's actually his mate, I've never heard him call her that. I stood up and Jane looked at me, I kissed her cheek. "I will be right back, I have to talk to Esme. I would prefer to do it alone if that's ok?" She nodded and smiled at me, she sat on her throne and watched around. 

I went down to where we kept our prisoners, going to where Esme's cell is. She sat up and looked at me, her cheeks were cracked which meant she hasn't been playing nice. "Esme, my guards know not to harm inmates, no matter how horrible you are. So have you been able to heal or was it someone else messing with you?" She glared at me, her eyes filled with anger and fear. "Why do you care, Bella? You got everything anyone could wish for, a kid who will never die, you're royalty to the world of the undead and supernatural. You got everything, you killed a man who loved you in his own way, maybe not the right way but he still loved you." I listened to her, I knew she was just angry with me but I could tell she still had some warmth in her dead heart. 

"You're right, he may have loved me, but the way he went about things got him killed, not me. I care because you are still someone, and as much as Renesmee is scared of your family right now, she loves you. Now stop being a bitch, is Carlisle your mate?" She looked at her hands, silent for a moment. "No, but he wants us to be. It's why Jasper is needed, but Jasper sees me as his mother and after a while stopped making me feel strong feelings for Carlisle. Jasper and Alice are all I have left, I will take all the pain in the world to stay with them." I nodded, opened the cell door, and got in, sitting down by her. 

"What he is doing right now will get him killed, your family and you also killed. But if you stand down and get them to stop I will spare him and let you three free of him if that is what you wish. But you need to leave Renesme and me alone, or I will kill you myself. Do you understand?" She nodded, "Where is he?" She cleared her throat and looked at me. "He's in the castle, hiding well, he plans on seeing me tonight and trying to get me out. The others, I don't know but if you pretend you have killed me he will just fight you head-on with them instead of playing peekaboo." I nodded and stood up, "Tonight will be the night then, I'll have a plan." She nodded and I left, going back to Jane.

I decided not to tell her anything, since the fewer people who know the better. I knew I had to trust Esme not to tell Carlisle and to not lie to me, but there was still a part of me that doesn't. I sat on the throne by Jane as the doors opened, Jake and his pack walked in. I had the guards leave so it was just us alone, I stood with Jane and Jake came over. I shook his hand and nodded at the pack. "Thank you all for coming, I have asked my guards to not be in this room and to ignore you all so you guys are comfortable. I promise nothing will happen to any of you if anyone messes with you, let me know and I will make them pay. Especially since you guys are my friends and you are here to help me with the Cullen situation." They all nodded and Jake cleared his throat, I sat back down with Jane. 

"We are all for helping, but what are we really getting into Bella?" I held Jane's hand in mine, "Well, when I came here we found out that Edward was not my mate and in fact, I am mates with Jane, Edward was killed for the way he treated Reneseme and I, also for the false mate claim. Now the Cullens are hellbent on taking Renesme from me and keeping her to themselves, I have Esme locked up. As far as I know, Alice and Jasper are only following because of Carlise. I have spared Esme's life but if she betrays me I will kill them all, I don't want to but I will if that's what it comes down to." They all mumbled to each other, discussing it, Jake put his hand out. "Ok, we'll fight with you, since Renesme is my imprint, I will protect her like the big brother I am. We will spare the three but kill Carlisle on sight, let us know if we need to kill the three. We will stand by the cast and watch out, I'll howl if we see them so you hear us." I nodded and they left, I sighed and ran a hand down my face, I couldn't believe everything was coming down to this, there was no reason for it too. 

I felt Jane rub my arm, attempting to calm me down. I looked over at her and smiled, she leaned over and kissed my cheek. "Relax, love, everything will be ok. Renesme is with Rosalie and Emmett who are with Aro, she is safe. I promise it will stay that way, the guards are ready to fight too. We just have to be calm, we can't do this stressed, you know that." I nodded and pecked her lips, listening out for the howls or anything really. After the sun had gone down we started thinking nothing was going to happen before we could go to our room we heard a howl, just then a guard came into the room. "Esme escaped, she is free and we can't find her."
