———————"Once you go without it, nothing else will do."
July 2017
"I will never leave you, Lenny. I will never leave you."
Lennon woke up surrounded by the scent of Tyler. She breathed deep, relishing in the peaceful feeling. Reaching her hands out to feel him, she was met with the plush material of the couch.
She opened her eyes, wincing at the harsh sunlight shining through the blinds. She sat up on the couch and looked around the room.
Empty.
Tyler wasn't there.
Lennon knew that the idea of waking up to him was wishful thinking, but it didn't make the harsh reality sting any less.
She got up and searched the house for any sign of him, but he was nowhere to be found.
No note.
Nothing.
She didn't know why she expected anything more from him. He had a habit of disappearing.
Lennon tidied up the place where she slept, and searched Tyler's kitchen for any kind of breakfast foods. After yesterday's clean out, the options were slim to none.
She settled for a partially stale pop-tart, pushing it in the toaster. While she was waiting for it to be done, she let her curiosity get the better of her.
If he didn't want me to snoop, he shouldn't have left me here by myself, she thought.
She scanned the pictures that sat on top of the fireplace. She picked up one of him and Josh backstage and smiled. They looked so happy. He looked so happy. She hadn't seen that smile in so long. She missed seeing his eyes crinkle up as he grinned, making her heart soar into the clouds every damn time.
She walked into the hallway and opened one of the closet doors. It was mainly coats, extra blankets, and-
Oh.
She felt a lump forming in her throat as she stared at the worn object sitting on the very top shelf.
The little toy piano.
He had kept it. After all this time, he had kept it.
A small smile pulled at the corner of her lips as she thought about the day she gave it to him. They were so young, and yet it still all came so naturally to him. The way he so easily picked out a melody without even having to try.
Tyler was music.
It was the first piano he'd ever gotten, and he never got rid of it.
That has to count for something, right?
The pop of the toaster startled Lennon back to reality and she shut the closet door, giving the toy one last hopeful look. She retrieved her breakfast snack, eating it quickly and disposing of the trash. She didn't want to idle. That made her think too much. Instead, she grabbed her change of clothes and headed toward the bathroom.
