A slam on the entrance door downstairs surges in the concrete walls, jolting her awake in fright. Lisa hears rattling noises in the kitchen; fallen utensils, excessively making clamor amidst the young morning.
She rises from her bed, eyes adjusting to the given rays of sunlight through the window. Warm and consoling. And peeking down, she sees Yugyeom closing his car outside with a measured bump. It seems like he just got back somewhere, carrying an empty leather duffel bag then warily goes inside the house.
She throws her blanket off her at once, setting them aside and walks barefoot towards her door, pressing her ear against the cold material. Lalisa waits for them to converse.
Muffled, she catches Hendery's voice—though too quiet—telling something, but it ain't nothing that she can't hear.
"I cook us breakfast. You should eat."
"Later." Yugyeom curtly replies.
Hendery talks again, a little better this time. "What did they say though? Did they pay you enough?"
"They told me to get it at dark. It'll be released in the North Compound, it's further than any town, and less bagmen are around. It's safer to negotiate than broad daylight."
"Tonight?" Even the younger sounds unsure.
"Yes, I'll be leaving at five. Keep an eye on her."
She hears consistent footsteps, merely audible as Yugyeom walks out from the vicinity again.
"Where are you going? I thought you'll be leaving at 5?"
"I'll be back shortly. And don't let her wander downstairs. Make sure she won't outsmart you!"
Lisa rolls her eyes, Yugyeom is definitely treating her like a toddler. And it pisses her off every time he mentions rules and don'ts.
Stepping back outdoor, Yugyeom's car begins to roar smoothly, handling another distrustful business on his own.
Hendery chases a yell. "But what if she'll outsmart me eventually?"
"I'll fucking send you back to college!" And he leaves with dry sandy soil dancing mid-air, being pushed back by his running wheels.
Groaning, the younger man runs towards the staircase heading to her room with apparent grumpy steps. Like a little kid who just got scolded, he continues to make a sullen look as he's carrying a food tray with him.
Lisa hurriedly slides back to her bed, plotting to be dead asleep the whole time she eavesdropped. She pulls the blanket up to cover herself from head to toe, relaxing her shoulders to pretend she's til flaked out like a tired cat.
A knock on the wood, Hendery opens her door with a creak as he receives no response from the lone woman. Peeking inside, he sights her sleeping figure; unbothered. He then proceeds to lay the breakfast he set aside for Lisa as a finicky eater on the table.
Yawning, Lisa turns to him as if there was no acting involved.
"Some oats, mashed potatoes and fruits for you. Is that vegan enough?" Hendery innocently asks, eyeing the meal he prepared.
"You've done enough." She says, getting up from her makeshift bed.
And it surprised her that the young man takes a seat across the table and smiles, blinking as if he's waiting for her next movement.
"What are you staring at?"
"I'll be watching you eat your breakfast." He replies nonchalantly, finding fun inside the depressing room.
Lisa shakes her head. "That's unnecessary, kid. I can't eat when someone's watching me like a haunted doll."
"I can tell you fun stories." He suggests, putting his elbow on the edge of the table, and lays his palm onto his chin.
She shots him a look, that look when you want to see any bluff coming from him. Running her sight to her breakfast, she appreciates how he put a small effort into it, though she knows Yugyeom ask him to do it.
Lisa don't know what's lingering inside his mind, but she could tell that the young man can't act independently without his brother around. She alternates glancing at her food and his judging gazes.
Slowly, his smile faded with his question. "You're going to stab me with that fork, aren't you?"
