When Orion woke up, he checked the clock next to him, and he realized something that was confusing to him. I've been asleep for two whole weeks?! He thought. He jumped out of the bed and ran to the closet nearby. He grabbed a white shirt and his favorite dark blue vest, and grabbed his dark purple shoes. He quickly brushed his teeth in the bathroom, and when he was done, he grabbed his backpack, and opened the large window. He looked over, and he saw a bright yellow bus coming down the road. Orion jumped onto a nearby pipe as his neighbors watched in shock.

"How is he doing that?" One of the hotel residents asked himself. Orion slid down the pipe, hoping that he wouldn't miss the bus. He let go of the pipe when he was only a few feet off the ground, then he started sprinting towards the bright bus. He met up with Cassidy and Jared at the bus stop, catching his breath.

"Oh, hey, Orion!" Cassidy said happily. Orion nodded, and the bus came to a halt next to the bench. Orion went through the doors, and took his seat in the back. Orion decided that now would be a good time to read the journal he had found. He took his backpack off his shoulder, opened it, and pulled out the leather-bound journal. Before he opened it, he smelled something familiar. Ugh. Who wears so much makeup that everybody can smell it- oh. Orion thought. Orion looked to his left, and wished he didn't. In the seat across from him, Orion saw his old 'girlfriend' as she called herself.

"Hey, Orion." She said, clearly trying to flirt with him. Orion rolled his eyes.

"Hello, Amilie." Orion growled. Amilie had long, blonde hair that was sprawled around her back. For a middle schooler, she wore way too much makeup, which always sent off a bad smell. Her long, pink skirt covered most of the seat, and her bright yellow high heels caused her to trip multiple times during fifth and sixth grade. Her pink eyes batted at Orion, as if she was trying to say, "I missed you."

Orion was disappointed that she would sit across from him for the rest of the semester. He turned his head towards the book, and opened it. Orion flipped through the pages of the second chapter, not noticing someone sit down beside him. Orion landed on a page about something about a creature called a Lortac.

"The plural version of a Lortac is Lortax, which defies all plural rules," Orion started. "Lortax are large, passive creatures that normally fly above the Long Plains. Their fifty-two foot long bodies let them glide long distances, with the maximum being forty-three miles. Their bodies are covered in a strong, thick fur, and under it are impenetrable scales. The scales are normally a bright blue, but rarely, the scales and fur can be a dark purple." He continued.

"Never heard of a Lortac before." A female voice beside him explained. Orion closed the book and turned his head to face where the voice came from. There, sitting next to him, was his childhood friend, Izzylyn Grey.

Izzylyn had straight, long, dark brown hair, and was a bit taller than Orion. Her fluffed combat boots had dried mud near the bottom, and she seemed to be more serious than her childhood self. Izzylyn's dark brown eyes seemed to pierce anybody down to their soul whenever she gave a scornful look.

"If it's another one of your made-up monsters, I will hit you on the head with a hardcover book." She said.

"It's not one of mine." Orion replied. "I found this book in my backpack two weeks ago." He explained.

"Huh. I found this key in my satchel yesterday." Izzylyn replied. In her hand, was a metal key, but instead of being silver or gold, it was a strange purplish-blue type color.

"Psh. That's nothing to what I found, Iz. Today, I found love again." Amilie explained, trying to be cute, but failing miserably. Orion opened his backpack, and pulled out a small catapult.
