REESE WAS A TROGLODYTE. She enjoyed her presence and the feeling of being by herself. Where no one judged her, no one wondered what she was thinking, and where no one talked. She could be her own best friend, alone in the world with her thoughts to haunt her or keep her company━until they could break her in the most horrific ways possible.
Now, she wasn't alone after a wreck less sleep of terror but felt alone in a blanket of darkness seeing Jasper's weak frame lying helplessly on the cold dropship floor as Clarke carefully dabbed a cloth onto the wound created by the spear.
"The grounders cauterized his wound. Saved his life." She muttered, more focused on helping Jasper than speaking to her or Finn who watched from the side. Reese started to understand how Octavia felt; feeling helpless because frankly━there wasn't much she or Finn would do.
"Saved his life so they could string him up for live bait." Recalled Finn, crossing his arms. "Garden of Eden this ain't."
"This is infected, it could be septic."
That was a point taken to Reese that reminds her she wasn't a very great doctor. She hadn't learned what septic meant, though━she had a feeling Monty did by the way he raised his head with fear etching his features. His anxiousness flooded the room and enveloped her senses, sharing the same look with the boy before Clarke spoke up.
"Any progress on using the wristbands to contact the Ark?"
Monty's gaze remained fixed on Jasper's. How could he put up with the pressure of getting the wristbands in order while his friend was dying in the same room he worked in, his agonized wails and screams piercing through his head while he contained one thought with another?
The boy didn't divert his soft gaze to anyone, but his friend. But when Clarke shouted his name again to gain his attention, his eyes moved smoothly from him to her━not having flinched at all.
Shifting uncomfortably, like he didn't want to admit it, he says, "that would be a firm no." Before Reese offers him a sad smile, wanting so badly to tell him he was doing so well with all the pain endives in his veins and with Jasper. He seemed so strong, being told he needed to stay behind to work on fixing the radios as his friend was dying out in the woods━not being able to be the one to save him.
Reese wondered if he felt the same guilt as Octavia; Jasper supposedly being there for Monty and when he was like this he couldn't help him. All there had to be was hope, and Clarke thought so too━as she tells everyone at least.
Clarke had been by her mother's side in medical at such a young age, Reese knew she wouldn't be doing all this knowing Jasper was a lost cause as some people in the camp would say. Idiots. The least they could do was show some respect and compassion towards the frail boy━she means, if they were dying would they feel great knowing while they're fighting for their life that all people aged to do was end it when it's the hardest they've ever fought.
