Zane had insisted on setting up a doctor's appointment for KC right away. She had to leave Noi to the bakery by himself, and Zane skipped work, (which his boss would make him work extra later for), to come to the appointment.
KC sat next to Zane in small chairs in the waiting room. Pregnant women crowded the area. KC's heart was racing. This was stressing her out. She was gonna look like that soon, and that worried her for some reason.
"Stacy Walt?" a nurse asked, walking into the room. A woman followed her. She looked about 7 months pregnant, but KC couldn't tell. She was trying to focus on other things, rather than knowing that Stacy Walt checked in right before them. They were next.
Zane attempted to calm KC down. He whispered sweet nothings, making her giggle, and then held her hand. Another nurse walked in, a meif'wa. KC held her breath.
"Nana Ashida?" the Meif'wa nurse said. KC stood up, Zane behind her. The nurse took them down two hallways and into a small room. It had what looked like a dentist chair. KC sat down.
"So, Nana, how are we doing today?" the nurse asked.
"Please, call me KC," KC said nervously, looking to Zane. Zane held her hand.
"KC," the nurse corrected. "We're going to take your vitals, and do basically a physical. Then we'll do a brief ultrasound, ok?"
KC nodded. The nurse took her tempurature, pulse, heart rate, breathing, and weight. The part KC dreaded was here.
"I will need you to lay down," the nurse said. KC looked nervously to Zane. Zane nodded. KC laid down as the nurse asked.
"I'm going to spread this gel on your stomach," the nurse said, lifting KC's shirt up slightly. "It'll be cold."
KC nodded as she felt a cold sensation on her stomach that gave her chills. The nurse attempted small talk.
"So, are you a Meif'wa?" she asked. KC nodded again.
"Okay, well, that changes some things for pregnancy," the nurse explained. KC didn't know what she was talking about.
"I'm going to start, ok?" she said. KC felt the monitor on her stomach. Zane looked up to the screen, as did the nurse. KC looked too, to see black. The monitor moved again, and KC saw what she assumed was the baby. She couldn't tell if it was one or two, her vision blurring. This was giving her a headache. She lay her head back down and let the nurse do her work.
"Congratulations! You're having twins!" the nurse said. Zane smiled big under his mask.
"Twins?" KC laughed. "You're joking," she breathed.
"No, there's clearly two," the nurse smiled. "As I said, Meif'was are more likely to have multiples. Singles are rare."
KC processed this. Two babies.
The nurse continued. "How long have you known about your pregnancy?"
KC wondered. "About a week ago."
The nurse laughed. "You're 3 months, dear," she said. "Haven't you noticed your baby bump?"
KC sat up, looking at her stomach. How had she missed it? She had a bulge right in between her hips. A small bulge that held her babies. She rubbed her stomach and smiled. Her babies. That was strange to think.

"... and less sweets," the doctor explained the diet. KC's face dropped.
"I own a bakery, miss," KC explained. The doctor shook her head.
"Less sweets. Eat more vegetables and fruits, protein, if you can, like nuts and beans."
KC didn't know how she could not eat her goods. She pouted the whole way home.
"What are you thinking about?" Zane asked. "Imaginary cake?" he laughed. KC gave him the evil eye, and he shut up.
"Too soon?" he asked.
KC looked out the window of the car and thought about it. Twins. Two. Double. Dos. Twice as many. Twins. She was scared. She wasn't going to be able to do it.

Turns out that Noi told everyone about KC's pregnancy the day after the party. She sent everyone pictures of her ultrasounds and announced the twins. This excited everyone, especially Aphmau.

-3 months later-
KC was now 6 months pregnant. And it was taking a toll on her.
The no sweets thing was eating her up. "Imaginary Cake" became an inside joke among her friends and boyfriend. Her nausea was causing being in the bakery horrible, and to top it all off, her back hurt like hell. She was vomiting almost every morning, and Zane started being too scared of her hormones to talk when she was feeling gross.
KC's next appointment told her that her twins were girls.
And Zane worked every night on the nursery. KC laughed every time she heard him cursing at the IKEA cribs he was trying to put together. The room was beautiful once finished.
And Zane started to get used to the idea of fatherhood.
And KC was getting attached to her swollen abdomen.
