You speak
quite quickly
and I am concentrating
hard on reading
your lips.
It takes me
a moment to register
your request
before I nod.
I suppose I shouldn't
turn down the
one person
who doesn't seem
to know about me.
I'm glad for the
fresh face and the newblood around these parts.
"What art you do?"
I'm trying hard to speak
properly, because I don't want to
scare you away
with my inadequacies.
We go up to the bar,
and I signal with three fingers
and the bartender
serves upthree glasses
of brandy.
Like you, it'sthe drink
I have when things
gets too busy and I need to clear
my head.
I hand one to you,
the third sits,
waiting,
while I drink the second.
