"Isabelle, hurry up! I don't want to be late. Especially not today!" Brendan yelled from downstairs. I sighed, but hurried up. I was kind of anxious about today. Chase, my brother's best friend, is turning eighteen. Which means that today is when he finds his mate, and I'm kind of hoping that it'll be me. I've had the biggest crush on Chase ever since freshman year. He's nice to me, unlike the rest of Brendan's friends. They are always calling me a nerd and saying that I'm ugly and things like that. It's because you are a nerd! I reminded myself. Sighing again I pulled on some faded out jeans and a light blue shirt and put on my combat boots and walked out. "Finally. Don't know what takes you so long, not like anyone is going to look at you. After all, you're nothing but a runt." My brother scoffed. I just stayed quiet and looked at the floor. Just think, in a few hours I'll be messaging Nicholas. The thought of him made me feel more confident. I met Nicholas on a Facebook page once, he messaged me about three years ago and we haven't stopped talking since then. He quickly became my best friend...well, my only friend too. "Let's go already!" Brendan snapped at me, breaking me out of my thoughts. I nodded and followed behind him.
As we pulled up into the parking lot, I saw the all too familiar yellow Ferrari already in its usual parking. A small smile slipped onto my face as I saw Chase getting out. His every move was swift and confident. He smiled towards us, and I couldn't help but to think that his smile was directed to me, but I knew that it was too much to wish for. "Hey, Chase! Anything yet?" my brother asked while they did a bro hug. I started getting my things together and went to the trunk of my brother's car to get my skateboard out. Chase opened his mouth to respond when a breeze flew from behind me, making Chase quickly snap his head towards my direction and our eyes met. I smiled at him and tried to tuck my hair behind my ear in an attempt to look attractive, but as soon as his eyes landed on me his expression changed into...a glare? I looked behind me, making sure that it was directed at me. I quickly looked back at him, but he was already talking to my brother animatedly about when he'll find his beautiful mate. I pang of hurt passed by me, something I've never felt before. I'm probably just jealous, I reasoned with myself. Shaking myself out of my trance, I closed the trunk and walked away. "Hey, Chase" I weakly smiled at him. As I passed by him our arms lightly brushed, sending electricity through my body. I gasped and looked up at him, my mouth opening to say what was running through my mind but his glare stopped me before I even made a sound. He quickly turned his back to me and walked away with my brother. "Freak" I heard him whisper under his breath as I felt my heart break. He's my mate... my wolf weakly thought.
The day went by pretty quickly. No one really paid much attention to me—after all, I am invisible in this town. Maybe even in this whole world. Not to Nicholas, I thought as a smiled slipped onto my lips. My heart picked up a little at the thought of talking to him, he always knew how to make me laugh...no matter what I was feeling at the moment. I've never met him in person, but I've seen his pictures. He was really cute, although I highly doubt that he'll ever like me... plus, he probably already has a strong and beautiful mate. I sighed, I'll never be strong or beautiful. I bit my bottom lip to keep myself from crying as I remembered how Chase reacted to when we touched. As I felt the first tear start rolling down I was quickly pulled into a dark room. I was about to scream, but the tingles that ran through me told me who it was and before I knew it, his lips were on mine. Chase trailed kisses down my face and neck, while I was enjoying the simplicity of having him so close to me and the tingles going through my body. "Mate..." he growled, as he breathed deeply. I looked up at him and saw the love and admiration in his eyes. "Chase, I'm so glad we're mates..." I whispered, as I went in for another kiss. He wrapped his arms around me tightly, pulling me closer to him. "I can't wait to tell everyone!" I said as we pulled away for a breath. He pushed me away, causing me to trip and fall hard against the wall. "No. No, we...we can't tell anyone. Not yet, at least. It'll be our little secret, what do you say?" his eyes held a mixture of disgust and lust. I didn't know what to do. "S-sure..." I stuttered. He smiled, but there was something off about it. It was almost...cruel. He turned around and left without even the slightest glance back at me. I slid down to the floor, and cried. Not sure of what to feel. Only one question was running through my mind. Was I rejected...or not?
