"Oh how I've missed this place" (y/n) smiled as he looked around the temple hangar bay as he got off the transport ship.
Barriss smiled at the boys happiness from behind him. "The pilot said a droid would take our stuff to our rooms" She walked off the transport.
"Good. I'm going to head off to one of the meditation gardens. I need to clear my mind" (y/n) started walking away.
"Mind if I come with?" Barriss quickly asked. She wasn't sure what it was that compelled her to say it but there was nothing she could do about it now.
(Y/n) considered it for a moment but shrugged. "Sure" he nodded before walking once again. Barriss quickly caught up and walked by his side.
Half an hour later the two Jedi were sitting with their eyes closed in silence. They sat on the floor across from each other but neither acknowledged the other. They had been there for twenty minutes already.
(Y/n) waited a long moment before nodding and opening his eyes. "Alright. I'm done. I don't have the patience to meditate any longer. Not today" Barriss nodded in response before opening her eyes. "Want to train?"
"Train? What sort of training?" Barriss asked curiously.
"I've been trying to improve my telepathy lately. Master Yoda seems to think I have potential to become a strong telepath. So far however I can only sense others emotions" (y/n) shrugged.
Barriss considered the offer before nodding. She pulled down her hood, causing her hair to flow down. "My mind is open to you"
(Y/n) smiled. "If you don't want me seeing anything just-"
"Mental barrier. I know" Barriss nodded. (Y/n) replied with a nod of his own before stretching his arm out so that it was almost touching her face. He closed his eyes and focused. "It's weird just staring at your open hand" She whispered causing the boy to lose focus.
"Then close your eyes" (y/n) replied as he once again tried to focus. Barriss closed her eyes and opened her mind to the boy.
The two sat in silence for a couple of minutes before (y/n) sighed and opened his eyes. "It's no use" he lowered his arm. "All I can tell is that you're feeling content"
Barriss opened her eyes and shook her head. "I can't say I know much about telepathy but do you mind if I make a suggestion?" (Y/n) shrugged in response. "What if we create a force bond between us?"
"A force bond?" (Y/n) asked confusedly.
"It's usually only a bond between master and apprentice, but I think it's possible outside of that relationship. It is developed over time through understanding of each other... usually. Master Vos and Master Secura developed an instantaneous force bond the moment they met"
"So how would we go about creating one?" (Y/n) asked curiously.
"Well shared near death experiences are supposed to cause them" Barriss shrugged.
"We already almost died together. Nothing formed" (y/n) shook his head.
"Maybe not" Barriss shook her head. "Or maybe it already set up the groundwork for one"
"Well how would we know?" (Y/n) asked curiously.
"Well for one thing these bonds sometimes allowed individuals to share knowledge through them. Let's try that" Barriss closed her eyes and focused. The boy waited expectedly. Barriss opened her eyes again and smiled. "Anything?"
"I don't feel like I know anything new" Barriss' smile quickly faded. "Let's try something else then. If we have any sort of force bond the most basic aspect is being able to sense each other's feelings from a long distance"
"So what? One of us flies far away and we just try to feel each other?" Barriss shrugged and (y/n) sighed. "Alright. May as well give it a shot" he stood up. "I'll get to my ship"
"You already have a ship? I've been waiting on one since before the war started" Barriss spoke causing (y/n) to smile.
"Mine's a bit of an antique. I've had it for years" he walked out of the room and started walking towards the hangar.
Half an hour later (y/n) was flying in orbit above Centax-1, one of coruscants four moons. The boys Jedi Vector was a little over two hundred years old. The ship was designed specifically to be used as a physical extension of the Jedi's connection to the force, the Vector was a sleek and streamlined vessel that emphasized performance and maneuverability. It demanded extreme concentration to fly. The ships weapons systems could only be activated with the use of a lightsaber as a key.
"Alright. Let's give this a try" (y/n) slowed the ship into a hover and closed his eyes. He pictured the face of Barriss Offee in his mind and reached out. He smiled when, to his surprise, he felt a feeling of hope which quickly turned to excitement. Yes! He could hear the excitement almost as if she were in the ship with him.
"It really worked" (y/n) spoke quietly, unsure if Barriss would hear him or not. He didn't get a response so he assumed she didn't. "Barriss?" Again no response, but he sensed she was alright so he again assumed she just didn't hear him. "Alright. Guess this will take some practice" the boy began flying back towards the planet.
Half an hour later, after getting the proper clearance to enter the lanes above the planet and then land the boy was back in the temple hangar. He got out of the ship and spotted Barriss standing by the doorway. He walked over to her.
"It worked!" Barriss spoke excitedly as he reached her. "I knew it!"
"I was able to hear you for a moment" (y/n) spoke causing Barriss to be quiet and look at him for elaboration. "You said 'Yes!'"
"We need to figure out what we can do with this power" Barriss smiled at the thoughts of what they could do. "This will take a lot of practice"
"I think we have the time for that" (y/n) replied with a shrug.
