Hours had passed, and the Matthews decided to check up on Maya.

They walked into Riley's room and found Maya on her bed, curled up into a ball, and crying quietly.

"I know you're upset right now, but in time you'll see this was the best thing for you," Riley tried to comfort Maya.

"Yeah, the best thing for me,:" Maya mocked in between sniffles. "God, why do you people have to ruin the one good thing in my life?"

"Because he's nearly three years older than you, Maya. A relationship with him would be inappropriate," Cory tried to explain.

"That's barely anything in the grand scheme of things," Maya tried to convince them.

"Maya, it's not right. You're in completely different stages of your lives."

"My 30-year-old stepdad got with me when I was 14 and no one seemed to have a problem with that," she said getting angry with them.

"What?" the Matthews' eyes nearly bugged out of their heads.

"Uh, nothing," she answered nervously.

She regretted her words, but it was too late to take it back. They had already slipped out.

"No, no, no, sweetie. Tell me what you mean that," Topanga said gently. "Please."

Maya took a deep breath.

"I meant exactly what I said. He had sex with me and no one cared, not my mom, not anybody. That's why I don't live at home," she finally admitted.

"Oh my gosh, Maya," Riley sympathetically hugged her friend.

"Grab your jacket, we're going to the police station," Topanga told them decisively.

"What? Why?" Maya was confused.

"To report your stepfather for rape."

"No, it, it wasn't rape, Mrs. Matthews. I didn't do anything to stop him," she told them shamefully.

"That doesn't matter. He's a grown man, you're a teenage girl. He abused his position of power as your stepfather."

They got to the station and Maya asked the officer at the front desk to report a crime. The Matthews waited in the lobby while she was taken into a back room where another officer was seated with a notepad and pen.

"Hello, Maya. I'm Officer John Reid. Why don't you tell me what's going on."

"I want to report my stepfather Michael Nelson for physical and sexual abuse," she spoke clearly and confidently.

"These are very serious crimes you're alleging," he started writing down notes.

"I know," Maya took off the dark sunglasses she had been wearing to cover up her black eyes.

The officer's expression was slightly shocked and somewhat sympathetic, but his mouth stayed in the same grim line.

Maya continued to describe various incidences with Mike that took place all the way back to when he and her mom started dating.

Shortly after, officers were dispatched to bring Mike and Katy in for questioning.

Maya went out to the Matthews out in the lobby.

"We're proud of you, Maya," Riley hugged her.

"No matter how this goes, we're behind you 100%"
