CHAPTER 7: OVERNIGHT

After drinking another glass of apple juice and water, you felt refreshed. With the breeze created by the air conditioners in the house, it adds more to your comfort, washing away a few of your worries about Calvin.

Taking a look at the grandfather clock near the television in the living room, you noticed it is already 9 pm. You really need to go home now.

You bring out your phone from your pocket, open the messages app, and plan to message your boyfriend, Lois. "It's late now, isn't it?" The man across you voiced out, stopping you from your actions.

"Yes," You confirmed. "I should really get home right now, I think my area is far from yours, and it's best for me to get going immediately so that I could probably sleep at around 10 pm or so."

"Hm." Calvin hummed. "Your home is far from mine, right?" He clarifies.

"Yes, Mr. Doris." You answered.

"Then, I believe it's a greater decision for you to stay over in order for you to sleep early for whatever plans you have tomorrow instead of taking a one-hour drive back towards your place at this time and sleeping late." He argued. "If you're planning to go somewhere at an early time tomorrow, I'll send my driver to bring you to that destination immediately."

"Also, I have not given to you your payment yet,"  He continued. "Wait here." He automatically walked up the big flight of stairs, slowly getting out from your sight.

You stood there, dumbfounded. Should you say something? You don't want to go out for a one-hour drive at this time but you also don't want to stay at his house for the night. Not only did you have a satisfying dinner at his place, but you're also sleeping over at his home! Plus, this is the Calvin Doris we're talking about, the world's most respected and illustrious painter.

The sound of squawking brought you back to reality. The white-feathered cockatoo, Loro, came back and landed on your shoulder, slowly climbing up to the top of your head.

The bird rapidly flapped its wings and bobbed its head, "UwaUwaUwa–!"

You pondered. You don't exactly have any plans for tomorrow. It's a Sunday and you don't have any working hours, you're basically free by tomorrow. Though, you could maybe go for some shopping with Lois.

White feathers blocked your sight, "Wahh!" the bird's screech startled you. "Holy Shit!" You jumped. This bird is odd, but from what you have known, Cockatoos are usually batshit crazy.

You gulped, when will Calvin come back? He's taking a bit too long.

Just in time, the sound of footsteps was heard. In his hand were three paper envelopes that looks to be filled with a  huge brick block. "Here," He handed them out to you, "added in some tips."

"You did well, thank you." Suddenly, he grabbed your hand and kissed your knuckles. Well, that was unexpected. You opened one up, trying to confirm if this is not a scam, and damn, were you shocked, that's a lot of cash he placed inside there.

"Sorry if I took too long, I was preparing a bed for you." He explained. Seems like you're not going home today. "Luckily, I have a guest room in this house."

Of course, he does. It's literally big.

"Come with me." He ordered. "I have also prepared clothes for you to wear so that you could feel more comfortable while sleeping." After going up a flight of stairs and a long hallway, you both stopped in front of a large door.

He opened it for you, granting you access to a gorgeous bedroom. A chandelier is hung in the center, with a walk-in closet on the side of the room, and a king-sized bed, with a television in front of it. You could also see another door colored in white which is probably a bathroom.

"If you ever need me, just call me. I'm right beside your room." After that, he left, giving you privacy. You are awed at the decor and the objects placed inside the room. They have the same degree of beauty and quality as the furniture you have in your home but being given the sight of a different version of it, especially in the house of Calvin, left you amazed.

You walked towards the white-colored door, and a large bathroom is what you see. Everything still keeps the same theme as the one in the bedroom: fancy and minimalist. You could see folded clothes placed right beside the sink. You immediately started stripping and heading towards the transparent-doored shower.

It's evening by now. Your body in large clothing, his clothing,  is what you wore as you are sound asleep in the king-sized bed. The man walked closer, his footsteps were barely audible from how gentle and cautious he walked.

Moving a strand of your delicate hair that blocked parts of your face from his view, he was given the sight of your peaceful expression. He cooed sweet words, gently rubbing his hands on your waist.

"Sleep well, darling." He kissed the tip of your nose and left the room after watching you breathe peacefully for an hour.
