You know, as I sit here, writing this at 5 AM, I realized there was something of great importance I didn't do last episode. Yes, that's right, long winded analysis of our new captures so then I can flex my big brain Gen 6 (and part of Gen 7) competitive knowledge. Before we get to that, however, let's take a look at the team now that I've grinded up everyone.
While I will need to do another grind session to get the squad ready for the gym, I opted for getting everyone to Level 9. Wrath got Sharpen, which should be useful since he is a physical attacker, but Flytrap on the other hand...only has two moves still. In addition, Flytrap's addition adds a big problem to our team. Namely, Fire and Ice are now our most common weaknesses. Since I don't know what things will have until they happen, this is a dangerous situation.
But anyway, before we go blow up all the trainers on Route 2, let's go over our current new recruits. First is Wrath. While Haxorus has fantastic Attack, it's Special Defense leaves a lot to be desired, which is especially bad when you consider his weaknesses, Dragon and Ice, have a number of dangerous special moves like Dragon Pulse, Ice Beam, and even Kyurem's signature move, Glaciate. If we can avoid those types, Wrath should hold out just fine.
As for Flytrap, on the other hand. Bellsprout is luckily one of those stone evolutions that still learns level up moves after fully evolving, but with items randomized, it'll be a miracle to find a Leaf Stone outside the one you can get from Castelia City. As for Bellsprout itself...well, consider the fact we have only 2 moves at Level 9. We're not getting another move until Level 11, so until then, all she has to work with is Sand Tomb and Giga Drain. Yes, that's literally it. Almost as slow as Lancer, which is saying a lot, has pretty shaky defenses, and only two moves isn't a very good look so far. We're low on mons, however, so she's here to stay.
Also, Bellsprout's dex number is 69. Please take this moment to laugh.
Anyway, with that out of our system, let's blaze through Route 2. We got actual regular trainer battles here, but at the end, Bianca's going to ambush us, which is the main reason I grinded to the levels I did. Sure, Carnivine's no threat, but who knows what else she'll pull out. Without further delay, let's go and blow up some trainers with our overpowered dragon and...whatever Lancer is supposed to be.
So, you remember moments ago when I brought up Glaciate? Well, our first opponent has a Dodrio...with Glaciate and Terravolt, Zekrom's ability. I just so happened to lead with Wrath and missed a Will-o-Wisp, only to eat a Glaciate as punishment. Luckily, Dodrio's Special Attack sucks, so it didn't do too terribly much. It's a good thing we have Lancer for situations like this to exterminate our problems. Even then, however, this one Dodrio proves to be unnaturally stacked. Not only does it have Glaciate, but it also had Freeze Shock, and yes, the exclusive Kyurem moves from Black 2 and White 2 can appear on Pokemon in this game thanks to the randomizer. Still no match for Lancer, but I thought I'd just bring that up.
So apparently Route 2 is just the route of monsters. First that Dodrio, and now the second trainer comes out with a Latias. Where the hell did she get that? It was no threat for Wrath, but this boy really needs some glasses. I have not hit a single Will-o-Wisp this episode. Get in the game, Wrath. He also got lots of experience and wanted to learn Present, which is a bad move because not only is it RNG, but you have the chance of healing the opponent. Healing. The opponent. No thanks, it's a hard pass.
