It has been a very, very long time since I have posted just about anything around these parts. Three years, actually. It feels like both a lot of time has passed, but also not much at all. Maybe this is what getting older does to you. But, here I am rambling about age when I should be talking about how we're going to beat up monsters with our own monsters in a written format for the entertainment of random people on the internet.
So as the type of person who hates beating around the bush, let's get down to business, and no, not to defeat the Huns. I mean, we're going to defeat Ghetsis, who will serve as the equivalent of the Huns in this tale. Why am I doing this playthrough? Well, it's two sided, actually. First, I needed another excuse to kill my writing drought. Second, however, I had gotten word from the boys back at the lab. Apparently, ever since the end of the Ultra Moon Nuzlocke, something...off has been up with the SD Card I had used to upload the MVP Spotlights after each trial and Grand Trial. They didn't have all the details, but apparently, the weird script changes and cuts during the last playthrough was a result of whatever was causing weird problems with my SD Card, which literally only had my digital copy of Ultra Moon on it. This could mean whatever that was has encroached it's way onto my PC. I don't even know how it got onto the SD Card. But I guess we'll cross that bridge when the time comes. For now, let's go over the rules.
First up, the original rules.
1. Only the first Pokemon on a given route, cave, or area may be caught. If I kill it, run out of Poke Balls, or it Struggles to death/I be an idiot and click run, sucks to be me. No encounter for that route.
1.5. Not nearly as annoying as Gen 7, but Black and White also have a couple of areas that have the same name, but entirely different encounter tables. Pinwheel Forest is the obvious offender of this. Due to this, I will only be allowed one encounter. If I catch something in outer Pinwheel Forest, I can't catch something in the inner forest section. For clarity, this is the area where you go after Team Plasma after Lenora's gym.
2. All Pokemon must be nicknamed, to forge a stronger emotional bond. It hurts more when your precious nicknamed team members meet their untimely ends because of something stupid or a misplay on the player's part.
3. If a Pokemon faints in any way, shape, or form (recoil, poison/burn, etc.), they are to be boxed or released. For the sake of tradition, I will be boxing my dead mons. HMs are also required in this game, so I may need to pull out something if nothing I have alive can use the moves.
4. Dupes clause, while optional, will be in full effect. If I encounter something I already have, regardless of where it is in the evolutionary line, I get a new chance at an encounter. For example, say I had a Zubat and encounter a Gobat later. That will be classified as dupes clause. However, due to the nature of this run, it is highly unlikely I will run into any duplicates.
5. Despite my luck being the definition of suck, if, and this is a huge if, I encounter a shiny, regardless of whether or not it's my first encounter, I have full rights to catch it.
6. Will I do postgame? Possibly. The real problem with this particular game's postgame is the sudden level spike from 54 to 63 or so on all regular trainers in postgame areas. This is a maybe for now, but could change to a no in the future.
Once again, due to the nature of this run, several additions need to be made.
This run will be done using a "totally legitimate copy of Pokemon Black that I legally own." That is all I can say on that subject. We will be using the Universal Pokemon Randomizer with the following settings.
-Base stats and types will remain the same, as it'd be a pain to remember 500+ things having new random types and stats
-Abilities are randomized, but no Wonder Guard for the sake of fairness. Bad and negative abilities are also turned off.
-Starters will be random, and static legendaries will be swapped with other legendaries. This is important since catching Reshiram is mandatory in this game, which leads into...
7. On the off chance my first encounter is a legendary and I somehow manage to catch it, I can use it. This also applies to whatever Reshiram becomes as catching it is mandatory.
-Moves are randomized, so prepare for wild things like Blue Flare Girafarig.
-Trainers will have random Pokemon. Bianca and Cheren will always have their starter, and boss battles will have one additional Pokemon with items.
-Encounters, naturally, are random
-TMs are randomized, but how they're learned are not. For example, if Work Up is changed to Explosion, only Pokemon that could originally learn that Work Up TM can learn Explosion by TM.
-Aside from that, Running Shoes will be usable from the start for speed purposes.
And now, once again, I must give a disclaimer. If you are not a fan of tangents cutting off the flow of the situation or random images, then I would advise against going any further. This is the way I like to do things and I don't plan on changing my style to accommodate other people who just want a Point A to Point B without strategy talk or opinionated rants on why I like Rosa's character design over Hilda's.
For those who either don't care or welcome that kind of random nonsense, welcome. Let us delve into the Unova region and see if we can overcome a region where (almost) everything has been randomized.
