Cora was upstairs in her room when she heard a knock on her door. "Come in," Zac says as she sees her foster father Peter enter. "Here's your medicine, kiddo," Peter says, as Cora takes the medicine from her foster father's hand and the glass of water from his other hand and swallows the medicine. "That's my girl," Peter says to Cora. " Hey kiddo don't forget if you need anything your brother will be there for you won't you Zac," Peter says to his son who reads "She's not my sister, and she's not my responsibility," Zac says to his father. Zac gets up, grabs his book bag, and heads downstairs.

Cora and Zac were waiting for the school bus outside when Hannah, Cora's foster mother, came out of the house and kissed both of her children on the head. "Zac, don't forget to help your sister at school," Hannah says to Zac. "She's not my sister, so she's not my responsibility," Zac says to his mother. Zac gets up and walks towards the bus, Cora trailing behind her foster brother.

Cora sat down at the far back of the bus as soon as she boarded it, pulling out her phone and opening a game. When she felt someone poke her, she realized it was Zac, so she turned off her phone. "We're at school," Zac says to Cora as he walks to the front of the bus

"Here's a map of the entire school," the school secretary tells Cora as she hands her a map and walks away from her desk. Cora started on the hunt for her locker after receiving the map, and while she was on the hunt, she overheard people saying things that should never be said to someone who is muted. She desperately wanted to strike them, but she didn't want to be in trouble on her first day of school. Cora had finally found her locker and was ready to store everything in it when someone grabbed her books and threw them to the ground, pushing Cora to the ground and kicking her.

Cora feared her life was about to end at that moment, but everything changed when she saw a boy grab the bully and toss him into the wall, followed by the boy walking away. Cora rose from the ground and collected up her belongings, putting the things she didn't need in her bag, then grabbing her lock from her bag and locking her locker before heading to her first lesson. Cora wondered as she walked to the class who that boy was. She didn't know who he was, but she wanted to find out.

When she arrived at her first-period classroom, she noticed an empty seat in the back and went over to it and waited to see who would be her neighbour. When she realized no one would sit beside her, she noticed a tall boy with a lady who might be the principal. "Thank you, ma'am," the teacher said to the principal, "Mr. Puckett, you can have a seat at the back right beside the girl," the teacher said to the boy, who nodded as he went to the empty seat.

"Class, we have a new student, how about you stand up and introduce yourself to the class," the teacher says to the class and also to Cora, but she just shakes her head. The teacher then walks over to Cora and whispers, "my name is Mr. Flynn, and it's okay everyone can be nervous on the first day." Mr. Flynn passes Cora some materials before returning to the front of the room and beginning to teach.

As the class was working Cora was still curious about her desk neighbour and wanted to know his first name and found a name tag on his bag that says, Sam Puckett. After she found out her neighbour's name she went back to work for the rest of the class and did whatever to make her teacher like her even if she was muted. A few moments before the bell rang she grabbed her timetable to see where she will be going next period.

While in her second class the teacher went over to Cora and inquired her something but Cora went on her iPad to give her teacher the answer  and  she was nearly done typing  when the teacher snatched her iPad and began getting irate at Cora for bringing her iPad into his class  which is when she saw the classroom entryway open and see that it is the principal  "What the hell is going on?!" The principal says to the teacher  "I asked Cora a question  and she  didn't talk, instead,  she pulls out her iPad so I went over to seize it." the teacher  says to the principal who grabs the iPad from the teacher and gives it back to Cora . " she's muted " the principal says to the teacher  "Well get her out of here she shouldn't be in this classroom when she's doesn't talk," The principal  was in pure shock of what the teacher had said and so she said to the teacher "get your stuff, and get out of my  school because you're fired."
