"Hi guys! Today I'm taking you along with me as I head to the craft store in search of materials for a few DIY pillows. You know I'm all about making your space your own, and having got rid of a decent amount of things before my move, I now find myself missing all of the throw pillows I used to have. So, this week I plan on making my own!"
While talking to a camera in public had once been something I was self-conscious about, the awkwardness of it had faded over the years, and now, while I still got a handful of odd looks, they no longer bothered me.
Turning my camera away from my face as I walked down the sidewalk, I got a few clips of the cars driving by and the buildings I passed. Clips that I would compile together in a time-lapse and drop some lively royalty-free music behind during editing. During filming though, my clips were typically disjointed because I went with the flow and collected as much footage as possible, only worrying about making everything perfect after the fact.
When I arrived at the bus stop though, I put my camera in my purse and hopped on with my earphones on, because while I was comfortable vlogging in public, I drew the line at doing so on transit. It was a space where the people around you couldn't just walk away if they were bothered by it, and it'd be hypocritical of me to do so since I certainly got annoyed when others were inconsiderate of the people around them. Hence the general no-go rule.
It took about twenty minutes to reach my stop, and when I walked up to the Michaels doors, only then did I pull my camera back out.
"I've always found Michaels a great place to pick up craft supplies," I said, talking in the background as I filmed the doors sliding open in front of me and grabbed a basket. "And while I'll admit some speciality stores definitely have higher quality items, the fact that Michaels has got pretty much everything you could ever want for DIY and crafting in one store makes it a go-to for me."
"First, we're headed to the fabric section where I'm hoping to find some blue and yellow swatches I can sew together to match my newly painted wall."
I reached the fabric aisles and showed off a lot of the different choices available—almost all pre-cut and bundled for easier selection—before tossing three different variations into my basket. Navy and white stripes, blue plaid, and a multi-coloured pack that included a yellowish gold. All cotton that would be perfect for pillow covers.
Then I headed over to where they stocked the foam and fibers a few aisles over, explaining to my audience why polyester was the best choice for those who wanted to fill a pillow themselves instead of purchasing an insert.
Two bags of that found their way into my haul.
"And finally, I want to grab a few bundles of yarn. That'll allow me to add tassels and a few fun decals to the pillow—just you wait and see!"
Once two balls of thicker yarn topped off my basket, I filmed a quick clip of me heading to the checkout area before cutting the video. Because while the shopping I was doing for the video was complete, I also needed to restock a decent amount of my basic craft supplies that had been discarded in the move.
