"Well, you better not." he said softly. His voice was deep and gravelly, despite his lack of cigarette use then. Annie's lips turned in a small smile as she held onto Garcello still.
"Wanna head back, before it gets too dark?" Garcello asked, moving his arms to wrap around her waist.
"Yeah, probably.. I'm not the smartest in the dark."
"You're never the smartest."
"I noticed, about 21 years ago!"
"Shoulda taken longer."
"I- are you implying I recognize my stupidity in the womb.?"
"Yes."
"BRUH."
Garcello laughed at Annie's exasperated response, much to her dismay. Garcello got up, and offered his hand to her. She took it, picked herself up, but never let go. They were both aware of it, despite how much sometimes they wished they didn't. However, it saved Annie a few times as it got darker quicker than they thought. They weren't expecting a storm, but it set in fast.
As the rain started to sprinkle, Garcello took his hat and put it on Annie's head. She stopped when he did, as he took a ponytail out of his pocket and started putting her hair in a ponytail.
"What are you doing?"
"Keepin' your hair dry."
"Garcy I-"
"I thought it would be nice.. let me do this just once.?"
"I mean, I can't tell you no."
"Hey, don't say that, you're allowed to say no to me."
"Well yeah, I just meant now, you're just being nice."
"Good, didn't want ya feelin' like you couldn't tell me no."
He finished putting her hair in the ponytail, and reclaimed her fidgety hand as they returned on their adventure back to his house.
Annie followed what she could see of Garcello's silhouette, which wasn't much as the clouds set in and the rain was heavy in the air. Annie wouldn't ever admit she was scared of thunderstorms unless she had to.. Which she hoped she didn't this time.
She was so lost in thought she just barely noticed her hand letting go of Garcello's, and that she was in pitch black.
"Garcy?" she asked into the darkness.
No answer.
Where did he go?
Lightning lit the sky.
Oh god.
