3rd Person POV
TW: Mentions of abuse
An eight year old girl sat with her back against the wall that separated her kingdom from the one next to it, wishing she could see what was on the other side. At the same time, a nine year old boy was sitting on the opposite side, hoping for a friend.
The girl sighed and began tapping on the wall like she had every day for three years. It was morse code that she was tapping. Her parents had taught her to use it when she was just four. Is anyone there? She tapped.
To her surprise, someone responded. I'm here, the boy from the other side said. Who are you?
The girl sighed and tapped, Should we find a hole or crack in the wall to make introductions easier?
Sure, the boy tapped. One second.
There was a couple minutes of silence before a voice was heard from a crack a bit above where the girl was sitting. "Hello?" The boy said.
"Hello!" The girl replied. "I didn't think anyone would reply to my tapping. How do you even know morse code anyway?"
The boy sighed. "My parents taught me a few years ago," he explained. "My name's Eret. I'm nine years old, and I'm second in line for the kingdom of Lylesburg. Who are you?"
"No way," the girl said. "I'm Sky. I'm eight years old, and I'm second in line for the kingdom of Cartersburg. I guess I've found someone like me, huh?"
"Indeed you have," Eret replied. "It sucks that this wall is separating us."
"I know," Sky said. "I've looked everywhere for a way through. Or a way around. It seems to go on forever."
The wall itself was around eighty feet tall, stretching on almost endlessly. No ladder could get you over it, and the only people that could travel between the two sides had an extremely special gift.
"Well, there are games we could play without seeing each other's faces," Eret told her. "Like Two Truths and A Lie."
"What's that?" Sky asked him.
"It's a game my friend Techno taught me," Eret replied. "You state three facts about yourself, one being fake and the others being true. I have to pick out the lie."
"But I've been taught to never lie," Sky said.
"So have I," he told her mischievously, "But it never hurt anyone if it was for a game."
Sky thought for a moment. "Okay," she said. "One, I wish I wasn't a princess. Two, today is the first time I've come to this wall. Three, I get hit every time I talk during a royal ceremony."
"Well, it has to be two," Eret said. "Techno said he's heard knocking here before, so I can only assume it was you. But that doesn't make sense," he continued, "You wish you weren't a princess? And you get hit every time you speak during a meeting?"
Sky sniffled sadly. "Yeah," she said. "I wish I had been born into a different family. They only care about my brother, Jonathan, since he's next in line. They don't hit him for talking during meetings," she said. "But he's a horrible person. He hits me as well, and he locks me up sometimes."
"Can I tell you something?" Eret asked.
Sky nodded, but then realized he couldn't see her. "Sure," she said quickly.
"The same things happen over here," he said. "My parents hit me, and lock me up sometimes. The only difference is my brother, who's really nice to me and sneaks me food sometimes when my parents try to starve me. I wish I wasn't a prince as well."
"At least you have someone," Sky grumbled.
"So do you. We're friends now, right?" Eret asked her.
Sky considered this for a moment. Her parents would be disappointed with her for making friends with a boy from the other side, the prince no less. But then again, her parents didn't have to know, right?
"Friends," Sky said, happy she could finally use the word.
A/n: Eret's brothers are both Tubbo and George in this AU, as well as Sky's brother being Schlatt. Hope that clears up any confusion!
