To say Bonnie Tate has had an easy life and a beautiful childhood would be flat-out bullshit.

Bonnie grew up on the outskirts of Hawkins in Indiana and was homeschooled for most of her life. When she was 14 her father passed away in a fatal car crash, he was put into a coma for 23 days but unfortunately, he wasn't strong enough. Ever since the passing of her dad, Bonnie's mom Kristy had turned to alcohol and drugs and found herself a new boyfriend who looked and smelt like he had been cooking in a dumpster for the past year. Her new boyfriend was called Kevin and his hobbies included drinking and driving, drugs, taking a shower every month and abusing Bonnie whenever he was angry.

The abuse started early in Kristy and Kevin's relationship, it would mainly be when he couldn't control his anger and he would find some sort of way to blame it on Bonnie and take his frustration out, it started out with a slap to the face but it gradually got worse and worse. Kristy half the time doesn't realise it's happening, well that's what Bonnie tries to tell herself but sometimes Kristy would see it unfold right in front of her but instead would just walk right past as if nothing was happening.

After the passing of her father, and Kristy spending all her time with her boyfriend or out doing whatever, Bonnie didn't continue with homeschooling.

Years go by and she found herself dating a boy named Billy Hargrove, she was 17 when she met the handsome high school basketballer who had just moved into town. He had this gorgeous curly mullet and his confidence radiated wherever he went.

They met when Bonnie was in the local corner store buying a pack of cigarettes for her mom and Billy was getting a pack for himself. He introduced himself and Bonnie couldn't help but blush. Since then they were pretty much inseparable, they kept their relationship lowkey as she lived just outside of Hawkins and didn't know anyone of her age.

With the passing of her dad, her mom being a witch and the constant abuse, Billy was the only thing that made her feel a sense of belonging, the only positive thing in her life.

That was until the year 1985.
