"Very good, Shawn. Naperfect mo rin ang exam natin," Eloise proudly praise her grade two student after the kid passed his paper. Pinahuli muna kasi niya ito sa klase dahil sa nakuha nitong score sa unang exam nila. Shawn got the lowest score that's why she decided to meet him after class to have a one-on-one tutoring. It was what she always do. She tutors her students especially those who are having difficulty in understanding their lessons.
"Thank you po, teacher. Uuwi na po ako."
"Sige. Nandiyan na ba ang nanay mo?"
"Opo. Nasa labas na po. Salamat po ulit, teacher. Ba-bye po!" Eloise smiled and waved at the little boy before finally leaving her alone inside the classroom. Huminga rin siya ng malalim at iniligpit na rin ang mga gamit niya. Mamaya, kailangan pa niyang dumaan sa mall para mag-grocery.
Papalabas na siya ng paaralan nang biglang tumunog ang phone niya. Kaagad siyang pumara ng jeep at doon na sinagot ang tawag nang makasakay na siya.
"Hect," she immediately mentioned her boyfriend's name, Hector Vasquez. Hector was currently a resident doctor in a huge private hospital in their place.
"Nasa grocery ka na?"
Umiling siya. "Papunta pa lang. Nagtutor pa kasi ako sa isa sa mga estudyante ko. Ikaw? What time ba matatapos shift mo?"
"10pm pa. Nakakapagod na nga, ang toxic ng duty namin." Eloise could hear her boyfriend sighing. They've been together for a year already. She met him when Hector once became an invited speaker in the public elementary school where she was teaching. Naging speaker ito 'nung nutrition month nila. Then long story short, they clicked and became a couple afterwards.
"Sige lang. After 10pm, umuwi ka na kaagad para makapagpahinga. Ganyan talaga minsan sa work, toxic. Basta huwag mong pababayaan ang sarili mo, hun, ha?"
"Of course," she could already imagine him smiling. "I love you, Eloise."
She giggled. "Love you rin po. Sige, bababa na ako. Update lang kita if nakauwi na ako." She finally ended the call. Kaagad siyang bumaba mula sa jeep para pumasok na sa mall.
Aftet almost half an hour, umuwi rin kaagad siya sa bahay niya. She currently lives in a condominium building. In reality, hindi talaga niya afford ang makabili ng condo unit—but since her cousin whose family is rich, migrated to Canada for good, pinatira siya nito sa unit nito—well, technically, she became its housekeeper. Pinayagan siya nitong doon na rin tumira para na rin malapit lang sa paaralan kung saan siya nagtuturo. She was living in the unit for free—ang tanging babayaran lang niya ay ang kuryente at tubig.
