~Balance~

This poor girl! She has been through so much! Her story is...breathtaking. She survived undeniable pain and suffering.

Thanks to her will to fight, I am alive.

If this girl didn't preserver, I would be dead on the road right now.

I want to help her...the scales have tipped again. This is not fair for her, but what can I do?

"Come with us." I rise to a stand.

She rises from her knees too. "What?"

"We are headed to a safe place, to avoid conflict. You should come too, and you could avoid the conflict. Then you could meet your mom in a safe place."

"Really? We just met." Voice as soft and silk. How could this girl be a Hatee?

Oh right, she was forced into it...I wonder which God she wished to worship. If she isn't like me; apart of The Balance.

"You have earned it." I hope I made a good first impression! Maybe if I said more...thank her one more time?

"Okay, thank you." Sincerity. Nuts, she beat me to it.

We turn to look back at the others, captivated by the girl's story as well.

"What is your name, dear?" The older man asks. His resent crankiness has disappeared.

"Auber." She replies sweetly. "And you are?"

"Arthur Van Johnson." Strong and fierce. " My Mum called me Arthur, and my Dad; Johnson."

"You said "called", as in past-tense. What happened to them?" She questions.

"Killed in a raid." He pauses. "Then this lovely lady came into my life, Meredith."

Meredith blushes.

"This is Elizabeth, or Lizzy." He introduces the Wisdom girl. Arthur then glances backward at Barn. His name escapes his lips. "...and Austin."

How does this "Arthur" know all of these names already?! I didn't even know his name!

"We should get going, with the invasion and all." I state.

Auber sends me a painful glance. I guess she doesn't want to be reminded of her doom passing through. She then looks to the gaping hole in the glass. How will they get across?

"Leave it to little old me." Arthur assures us. "Kindness worshipers always carry their "Act Of Kindness"." He winks and whistles using both fingers.

A yellow magic carpet flows like a serpent out of Meredith's handbag. I've heard of these! Only, I thought they were a myth. One of the ones they mentioned in bedtime stories for good children. I never knew that one of the Kindness perks was a magic scarf/carpet!

The carpet floats in the air for a minute, and then dives for the cracked area of the glass. It looms over for a while longer, sprinkling yellow dust on the area around it. Jaws drop and smiles spread wide. I know everybody whispers to themselves; "magic". The conclude the show, almost like a dog obeying a command, the carpet falls to the floor. It just fills in the hole, and looks as hard as a board.

"Safe to walk across." Arthur takes a bow and gestures to the others to make their way to Auber and I. One by one the people walk until we have all gathered near the next exit. "Shall we be going?"

"Let's be quiet. We only have to follow the buildings east, and we should reach the place we need to be." I walk across the room we enter after opening the door in front of us. "A right turn at the Museum Of Square History." I know the path well, even if in the air. I've taken this route before with the transport.

Auber is right behind me, hot on my trail. Does being close to the front of the scrambled line help her cope with the invasion?

In the next glass walkway, Auber gasps and clings to my arm. She watches as the Hatees storm the city. From up high, the invasion appears to be mice scurrying away from pouncing cats. Once caught, they are tied up and moved into red vehicles scattered all over the transport tracks. Vehicles are illegal!

Why would Auber freak out so badly over these things? She isn't a Love devotee, so why all of the drama? Did her mom raise her this way?

Between Auber's fits, all that graced my mind was; open the first door, and walk. Go gently through the glass paths, and do not be spotted. We will walk as long as we must to reach safety. At least I will.

Seven more glass paths bring me to the place where Donny hopped off the transport. This makes me glance back at Austin, not necessarily looking for signs of life. I wonder what happened to that boy. Did he have time to flee, or has he been gathered with the rest of the captured?

Four more doorways and I'm out of breath. Somewhere in between here and where my thoughts lingered I must have started running. I have not looked back at the group since starting my trip to safety. Not now though, wait until we reach the museum.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There it is, the long flat building that almost appeared to be a colourful rainbow. I run towards it, hope rushing through my veins. My entire being devoted to reaching the museum corner. It meant safety and rest. Only a right turn and a block away. My fingers would warp around it and lock in place. Nobody could steal it from me.
"Help! Somebody help!" A scream irrupts. Everyone stops, including me. I must ignore the screams and keep going, I will have my freedom and will not lose it to help someone. This person who is down bellow, running along the transport tracks.
Though the voice didn't come from that far down. It was close...
No. Run.
I am no longer ahead of the others. Auber has rushed ahead unnoticed. I cannot read her mind, but I know she hunts down the voice. Could she possibly believe in Kindness?
Why am I suddenly craving answers?
"The museum corner." I pant. "Wait there."
Auber does not hear me. She races for the voice.
I race for her.
"I'm coming!" She shouts. "Speak to me, I'll find you faster!"
"I don't know what to say; I like your voice?" He blares, and Auber follows.
"Gee, I wonder what you would say to me if you weren't needing help." She almost laughs.
The building is set up for fast travels. Once you exit a glass path, you enter a room connecting to the next (sometimes there are more than one). Auber has taken a left turn, deeper into the building.
"I'm over here! Lalalalala!" The person shouts. I identify this voice to be a boy's as I chase Auber.
She makes another left and enters a room with a window for a wall. One of the windows has been pushed open, and the boy's body hangs from the ledge. His face looks down at the doom of the streets.
"I had a ladder." He looks up to take Auber's pale hand. My breath catches and I freeze.
This boy is Donny.
Ohh snap! Thought you heard the last of him? Nope! The boy pared with Austin is back!
Are you happy? Do you think they should get together?
Do you see the group reaching safety, or being cut down by the Hate solders?
More importantly; What do you think will happen to Ember? Do you think she was closer or further to the starting point of the attack?
Next update: Six votes for the book.
