Broken Escape

Agatha's heart was thumping so hard in her chest that she was surprised no one could hear it.

"Untie me. Now," Evelyn barked with another glance at the window.

"Sorry," Anadil didn't sound sorry. "Not gonna happen."

But it did happen. The windows shattered and butterflies started pouring through- more than Agatha could count. They swarmed the room and all Agatha could see was blue.

This is why Evelyn kept looking out the window, Agatha thought. She was waiting for them.

Agatha ducked down, crawling towards the School Master, but when she reached her, the ropes were cut in half and Evelyn was gone.

Agatha spun around madly looking for her when she saw a flash of blue; but it wasn't a butterfly. It was a dress.

Evelyn was escaping out the window, throwing herself onto her butterflies when Agatha grabbed her wrist. Evelyn's body jerked back through the window and onto the floor by Agatha's feet. She looked up, defeated.

But the butterflies weren't. A swarm of butterflies gathered around August Sader and lifted him off the ground. They started dragging him towards the window and, with an evil grin from Evelyn, threw him out the window and over the side of the tower.

Agatha let out a horrified gasp, but Sophie's face was calm.

"The arrows," she whispered. "I had Grimm shoot arrows into the side of the tower so I could climb up. He's safe if he can grab onto them."

Agatha let out a breath of relief when she didn't hear a deathly crash and she tightened her hold on a trying-to-escape Evelyn Sader.

"You aren't going anywhere," Agatha said as the butterflies flew back in for their next victims.

They swarmed around Dot first, pulling her to the window. Then, Hester. Then, Anadil.

Soon, only she and Sophie were left, but neither could have helped the Coven; Agatha had hold of Evelyn Sader and Sophie wasn't about to let the still writhing Storian get away- thought Agatha didn't understand why the pen was more important than her friends if there was only a chance that they might grab onto one of the arrows.

Then, the flapping stopped; the butterflies stood down. Agatha wrinkled her brow in confusion, looking for the winds of blue that were sure to come, but they never did. It was silent for a moment, Evelyn and Agatha each waiting for the other to make the next move. But it was neither of them; Sophie stood up.

She stayed silent, pulling the Storian towards the window. The blonde girl's head stuck out the window for a moment before she whirled around, a confused look across her face.

"There's someone coming,"

Agatha couldn't move without letting Evelyn Sader get away, but she already knew who it was.

The look on Evelyn's face made it perfectly clear.

Her son was coming.
