You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me

Chapter 4

The next day, Chrissy and Noni showed up at Dean's home around 7:30 in the evening. Dean answered the door looking stressed, "Help. Please," he said shortly.

"Oh God, you're a wreck..." Chrissy gasped.

"Gail is running a fever. I think she's teething. She spit up all over my suit jacket. Ah, Christ... it's already 7:30," he grumbled, looking at his watch.

"Alright, time out. Breathe. I'm going to fix everything. Noni, why don't you go check on Gail?"

"You a good boy, Dino," Noni patted him on the shoulder, "Good Papa too."

"Grazie, Noni," he said, cracking a smile.

Tears were brimming in Dean's eyes, but he refused to cry. He cleared his throat as Chrissy took his jacket. She went over to the sink and began to clean the spit up off of it. After patting it dry, she went back to him where he was standing in a daze. 

"You gonna be okay?" she asked quietly. 

Not wanting his voice to crack, he hung his head and shook it, "I don't understand why you're being so kind to us. We're a disaster."

"Dean," she picked up his chin so his eyes would meet hers, "We all have our demons, and we're all disasters in our own way. You saved my life. That makes us friends now, and friends take care of each other, especially good looking Italians like ourselves."

He let out a chuckle and seemed to relax. She helped him to tie his bowtie and get his suit jacket on. He went to his room and brought down two pairs of shoes and a white pocket square. 

"Which shoes?" 

"The black loafers with the gold piece for sure."

He put the white pocket square in and slipped on his shoes, "Well?"

"You look like you're going to a high school dance."

"Lose the cummerbund and use a different color pocket square."

He grumbled in Italian, but shortly returned looking much more relaxed, "Now, you look like a Cool Cat." 

"Gee thanks," he laughed, "Alright, honey, I got to go."

"Go get 'em, Dino."
