It had been two weeks since the incident and Kevin was finally healed enough to leave the hospital. Everyday I had stayed by his side either playing a game of cards or watching the TV with him. The first few nights I slept at the hospital until Kevin insisted I go home to get some proper rest. Some nights I would sleep at my own house while others I would spend the night at Jenna's then the next day we would both make a trip to the hospital. I didn't get that much sleep when sleeping at my own house. I was either in fear of Ryan knocking my front door down or the police cars patrolling my street would keep me awake. There was now an investigation in place to find Ryan seen as though he had disappeared off the face of the Earth. The last I had heard or seen from him was the day he put Kevin in the hospital.
One evening me and Kevin had been curled under the blanket of his hospital bed, Jenna tucked into a ball in the chair that sat in the corner of the room, when a nurse came in to announce Kevin could leave the next afternoon. His stiches from the operation had healed fast and well, as long as he didn't do any heavy lifting or move too much it was enough to allow him to go back home. Well that was until Jenna suggested a different idea,
"I don't think you should be at home alone Kev."
"What do you mean? I'm fine!" He replied.
You could tell by the tone of his voice he wanted Jenna to shut up before the nurse changed her mind.
I couldn't help but let out a slight chuckle of amusement at his facial expression.
"That actually wouldn't be a bad idea Mr. McHale." The nurse responded.
"What wouldn't?" He asked, confused.
"If someone stayed at the house with you, just in case you needed something from a high shelf. It would be better than you tying to do it and hurting yourself even more."
"See! Ellie can stay at your place. she's pretty much been with you the whole way through this recovery." Jenna butted in.
"Jenna! Ellie I wouldn't expect you to do that for me, you've already done a lot." Kevin smiled.
"Oh I wouldn't mind, really! It's been fun hanging out with you, as long as you don't mind me crashing at your place." I assured him, smiling in return.
"Well there, it's settled then." Jenna grinned.
"Great I'll just go and get your release papers then." The nurse smiled.
With that she left the three of us in the room.
Once the door closed behind the nurse, Jenna turned to grin at the both of us.
"Well I should probably be heading home but I'll try and stop by your place tomorrow, Kev." She smiled.
"Okay!" Kevin replied.
After Jenna left the room became silent.
"You don't have to look after me Ellie. I can take care of myself, you know what Jenna's like."
"I know but I want too." I smiled.
"I love your smile, it reminds me of the sun. Bright and happy!" Kevin stated.
"Thanks." I replied, ducking my head to try and hide the blush.
"Hey, don't hide that beautiful face of yours."
I felt his hand under my chin as he lifted my head, my gaze came upon his face mere inches away from my own.
Just as Kevin started to lean in and make his way towards my lips, I heard the door to the room being opened. We jumped apart so there was a normal distance between us before the intruder saw anything. When we looked towards the door we saw it was the same nurse from moments ago. In her hands she held Kevin's release papers, bringing them over to us to be signed.
"Okay, Mr. McHale I just need you to sign here." She smiled, knowing she had walked in on something.
"And Miss, if you could just sign here to say you will be taking care of Mr. McHale once he leaves the hospital." She continued, passing the paper towards me and handing me a pen.
"Ellie you really don't have to." Kevin sighed.
"Kev, I'm doing it so shut up already."
"Okay, but don't come crying to me when I become too much of a pain." He laughed.
"You will never be too much of a pain!" I smiled.
I signed the paper and handed it back to the nurse.
"Okay, well thanks guys. You will be able to leave at noon tomorrow." She smiled.
With that she left the room for the evening.
Once she had left I stood up and stretched out my legs.
"Well you should probably go home and get some rest so you'll be on time tomorrow to pick me up." Kevin smiled.
"Okay. Do you need anything for tomorrow, like some clothes?" I asked.
"No it's okay, I got Jenna to get some last week so they were ready for when I got released."
"Okay, well get some rest and I'll be here tomorrow at noon."
"Okay, night Ellie."
"Night Kev" I replied, closing the door behind me.
As I drove home I couldn't get the thought that Kevin was going to kiss me out of my head. He never tried to again once the nurse left and he never brought it up. A part of me wished the nurse hadn't walked in and that he had kissed me. This made me think that I needed to revaluate what I felt for Kevin and how I saw him. Things were going to get confusing.
