"Scar, did you hear about Kit Connor moving here?" Paige, my best friend, asked as she walked into my house.

"Obviously, Pai. I do have ears while walking through the halls."

"Could've had me fooled, you seem to never hear me when I call for you," Pai was rummaging through my fridge.

"The halls are loud," I pointed to her with my chopsticks.

"Still, you always have earbuds in too," Pai grabbed the leftovers from dinner last night. "Can I eat some of this?" I nodded while going back to eating my noodles. My phone went off while Paige was heating the leftovers.

"Hey, I'll be right back. Gotta go answer my mom," I stepped out onto the porch. "Hey, mom. What's up?" I watched as a moving truck pulled into the driveway next to mine.

"The new neighbors should be there any minute now and I told them that I'd help them move in, could you go for me?" Mom sounded out of breath.

"Yeah, sure. I just gotta send Pai home,"

"Ok, tell her to take the leftovers with her. Lord knows neither of us will eat it," mom's laugh sounded through my phone speaker.

"Alright, bye mom. Love you,"

"Love you too"

"Pai, you gotta go. My mom is making me help the new neighbors move in. On the plus side, you get to take the leftovers from last night with you," I smiled sheepishly at Pai waiting for her reaction.

"Ok," Pai started to grab her stuff

"Wait, that's it? No big argument or offering to help?" I was genuinely confused, she never leaves without a fight.

"Yeah, I'm grounded and not even supposed to be here. Maybe your mom's cooking will soften the yelling I'm gonna get for coming here instead of going straight home." Pai grabbed her backpack and left, I rolled my eyes. She's almost always grounded for various reasons. After changing out of my school uniform, I head out of the door.

"Hey, I'm Scarlett Delacour. My mom is Sarah Delacour, she said she promised to help y'all move in," I smiled at the older lady as she nodded.

"Hi, yes, I'm Caroline Connor. It's nice to meet you," Mrs. Connor stuck her hand out for me to shake.

"It's nice to meet you too, so what can I help with, Mrs. Connor?" I ask following her to the moving truck.

"Oh, please, call me Caroline! Mrs. Connor makes me feel old," Mrs. Caroline laughed.

"Ok, Mrs. Caroline, how can I help?" I smiled as she sighed.

"Are you going to drop the 'Mrs'?" She asked, I shook my head.

"I'm sorry, but my southern upbringing will not allow that," She laughed and shook her head.

"Well, how strong are you?"

"Not very, if I'm honest, but I do know how to lift with my legs,"

"That's all I need," Mrs. Caroline pointed to a box for me to grab. "Follow me!" I followed her through the garage and into the kitchen. She told me to drop the box off on the counter and I did.

While I was turning around to walk back out to the moving truck Mrs. Caroline said something. "Oh! Kit, this is Scarlett. She's our neighbor," Mrs. Caroline called and it finally clicked in my brain, my new neighbor is Kit Connor; turning around slowly I smiled.

"Hiya," I stuck my hand out with a smile.

"Hi," Kit smiled back at me while shaking my hand.

"Well, now that you two have met, Scarlett could you help me move a bed frame?" Caroline asked.
