March 2015

Stevie sat on the chair in their recording studio, watching carefully as Jeong-Hui banged on her drums. Texas is Forever had seemed to grow a bit difficult for them, not that any of the girls were too upset about it. Jeong-Hui's grin hadn't left her face the whole time, excited that she was finally able to play something that gave her a challenge. The girls had finished Bedless around a week and a half ago, and she knew that Jack still had to ask her about the song, which she wasn't exactly looking forward to. It was why she had been pretending to be laser-focused on what Jeong-Hui was doing while the cameraman talked to Becca and Camila.

"Stevie!" Camila called out from her spot next to Jimmy, who was napping. "Come talk about Bedless."

Stevie turned in her seat and stood, wiping invisible dust from her flower-printed dress, and walked up to the couch, shoving Jimmy aside and wiggling her body in between the couple. Jimmy woke up with a start and glared over at Stevie with tired eyes, to which Stevie sent him a teasing grin.

"Okay," Stevie laughed out, turning to the camera. "The name Bedless comes from a joke that Jeong-Hui made about never owning a bed because we were always either touring or recording."

"Was that difficult for you guys?" Jake asked. Stevie nodded, chewing on her lip.

"When we would get back to our homes," Stevie explained. "It was kinda weird because it didn't always feel like we were home."

Camila nodded in agreement. "When Jimmy and I bought our house, it took a full two years for us to finish moving our stuff in because of how often we were gone."

"Is that what the song is about?"

"In a way," Stevie said, scratching her chin. "It's mostly about the end of a relationship. It was one of those things where it's not meant to be, and you both know it, but that doesn't make it hurt any less."

"Was it a relationship you had?" Jake asked. "Or just something hypothetical?"

"Both," Becca interrupted, pulling a cigarette out of her pocket and holding a hand out. Stevie leaned down and grabbed her purse, producing a lighter, and handing it to Becca. "She started writing it in ninety-five and finished it in ninety-seven."

"Hey!" Stevie shot her head towards the door and was greeted by the smiling face of Chad Smith.

"Smith!" Becca exclaimed, jumping up from the couch to give him a big hug. "What are you doing here?"

"I was just visiting someone," He said, sitting down in one of the studio chairs. "The real question is what is Sula doing here?"

"Don't act like you don't know," Becca cackled out. "I'm sure Grohl already told everyone he knows."

"Yeah," Chad shrugged. "Although, it's more like, he told Taylor and then Taylor told me."

"Well," Stevie shrugged. "It's probably gonna be announced soon anyway, right?"

"Yeah," Jake confirmed. "Next month."

"So," Chad continued, watching as Jeong-Hui fiddled around with her set. "What's going on here?"

"You're gonna love this," Becca said. "This is gonna be our fastest song."

"Oh, yeah?" Chad asked. "Can I hear what you've got so far?"

Becca nodded and grabbed her bass, while Camila quickly jumped up and went into the booth with Jeong-Hui.

"You're not going in?" Cad asked Stevie, who shook her head. "I haven't figured out my part just yet. It'll sound better without me right now."
