June 2015

Stevie left Becca to discuss Circles, as it was one of the few songs that she had written for the band and given to Stevie. She could vividly remember the woman looking at her with such excitement over the fact that she had written a song, and even more excited when she realized just how much Stevie had liked it. It had always been a regret of hers that Sula had never recorded the song or put it on the album, and Stevie was quite happy to be rectifying that. She had continued to live by the idea of living a life with no regrets, and she enjoyed working towards that.

She idly strummed the chords to the song as Becca went into great detail about her motivation behind writing the song, how it was one of the first ones she had written, and how Stevie had reacted to seeing it for the first time.

"She flipped," Becca laughed. "Usually, when she's writing, I help her find different words or maybe throw in a verse or two, but I wrote this one all on my own. There was no one more proud of me than Stevie."

"Did it upset you that Sula never recorded this song?" Jake asked and Becca shook her head.

"Nah," She rasped out. "I showed it to her after we released Collide With The Sky. I would've been more pissed if they recorded it without me."

"Stevie," Jake said. "What did you think when Becca showed you this song?"

Stevie sat up from the chair that she lounged on, sending the camera a teasing smile. "Usually, when another member of the band wants to show the writer a song, that's the end of their time in the band."

Jake let out a chuckle and ushered for the girl to continue.

"I never really felt that way," Stevie shrugged. "If Jeong-Hui came up to me one day and told me she wrote a song and wanted to try it out, I'd be pretty excited, even though she is just the drummer."

The girls erupted into laughter as Jeong-Hui playfully tossed an elbow her way with an over-exaggerated pout. "You're such a bitch, Stevie."

Stevie chuckled a little longer before she turned back to the camera, doing her best to stay serious for the remainder of the footage. "Seriously, though. I never minded it when Becca would suggest different lyrics, or show me songs that she had written. People always talk about how genius finds genius, and I don't know if that's what Becca and I are." Stevie thought back to Kurt and Dave, how they had found each other after the band went through so many other drummers, and had clicked so quickly. She remembered when Dave told her about Kurt's reaction to one of his songs, and it being added to the album.

"But, we found each other," Stevie continued on. "And we seem to be doing something right if what everybody is telling is us serious."

"It is," Jake reassured just as a soft knock interrupted them.

"Sorry," Stevie apologized quickly as she stood and opened the door. "It's my kids."

"No problem," Jake said as the girls sent her a reassuring smile. Lola and Nakoa burst past their mother, flinging their backpacks that carried their toys aside, and jumped into the open arms of their aunts.

"Hey," Jason greeted, pulling the woman into a hug with a friendly smile. "How is everything going?"

"It's good," She said quietly, giving him a squeeze back. "Almost done with the album, which I'm very happy about."

"Tired of talking to a camera?" Jason guessed and Stevie nodded. "I should've guessed that. I remember all the piles of scripts sent to you after the voice work on Zoë's favorite cartoon." Stevie snorted at the memory.

She had put all the scripts through the shredder and politely responded with a resounding 'No, thank you.' After that, she hadn't been asked to feature in anything else, which Stevie was quite pleased with. There was something different about playing on stage in comparison to being behind a camera. Most people would find being behind the camera more comfortable, as it gave them countless opportunities to mess up and the final cut will always be perfect because it's all fake. That's exactly what Stevie hated about it.
