Chapter 2
It was Friday afternoon and I was walking home from school. I have a car but I rarely use it. I didn't live far away, so it was a short walk. Soon my house was in view. It was a small brick house on the corner, nothing special. It was big enough for it's three inhabitants: my parents and myself. Yes, I'm an only child. I'm not sure exactly why my parents decided to have only one child. I never bothered to ask, but i'm not complaining or anything. I hear enough stories from Amy about her annoying twin brothers that make me feel a little better about being an only child.
When I entered the house I went straight to the kitchen. My parents weren't home yet as usual. My mom was an RN and was always working late and my dad was a principal at some local middle school. Neither of them were home often. I've gotten use to it over the years.
I made a quick sandwich and grabbed a soda from the fridge. When I was finished I went up to my room and plopped down on my bed.
I looked over at the alarm clock which read 4:23 p.m. I layed there reflecting over the day and the past week which consisted mostly of boring classes, homework that I didn't do, oh and how could I forget the three A's that came up every minute of every day: Amy, Aaron, and the Afterlife. I suddenly found myself in front of my laptop, looking up the trailer to the movie that couldn't seem to leave me alone.
I drummed my fingers on the desk as I waited for the video to load. What am I doing?I mentally asked myself. Believe it or not, 2 minutes later I was sitting on the edge of my chair with my mouth gaping open at the trailer I just watched.
The trailer, showed how a man who lived a terrible life was in a car accident and died. The most intriguing part was how the accident scene kept replaying over and over. Each time he would die, the so called "afterlife" would be different. The trailer ended with a question on the screen in bold letters: Which will be his true afterlife?
It pretty much was about what I've always been curious about. For a long time I've wondered about what happens after death. What happens to your mind and soul? Do Heaven and Hell really exist? Why is it that different faiths believe something different like Hinduism and reincarnation? No one really knows. Do they? It's not like the dead come back to life and write a book on it. All we have are theories and what people choose to believe.
One thing was sure after watching the trailer: I had to see this movie. I decided to call Amy up to see if she still wanted to go. I grabbed my phone and dialed her number.
She picked up on the second ring.
"Changed your mind huh?" she said matter-of-factly. Is she psychic or something?
"Hello to you too."
"Sorry, hi!" She laughed. "But did you change your mind?" She asked again.
"No..." I lied.
"Really well you're gonna be missing out on-"
"Alright, alright i'll come," I said defeated. There was no point in dragging it out.
"Great! We'll pick you up around 6:30ish, see ya!" She hung up the phone.
Well that wasn't too bad. It soon registered that she said "we." I groaned. How could I forget about Aaron and his friend? Great. Just great. I hope Amy didn't expect anything because I was only going for one reason and one reason only.

The doorbell rang finally. I checked my phone. Talk about late, it was 7:03. I took a look in the mirror. I was dressed casually in a red T-shirt and jeans with black flats on. The doorbell kept ringing. "I'm coming Jeez!" Grabbing my jacket, I ran down the stairs. I yanked the door open prepared to yell at Amy for being late, but it wasn't her at the door.
I looked up to find a tall guy, with dark tousled hair and chocolate eyes standing there looking down at me. He was tall but not as tall as Aaron was, although they looked to be about the same built, probably one of his soccer mates. He wore a crisp, navy long sleeve shirt with faded jeans and what appeared to be dress shoes. He looked like he was modeling the clothes he had on. I caught a whiff of his cologne. It was such an intoxicating scent that I was tempted to step closer, Good grief! I had to give it to Amy, she couldn't have chosen a better person. He caught me staring at him and started smirking. I looked away blushing.
"I know I'm hot, but are you gonna gawk at me all day?" He asked smirking.
"Didn't realize I was. I promise it won't happen again." I replied in a clipped tone. Just because I found him attractive didn't mean he needed to know it. "And you didn't have to ring the bell so many times, you guys are the ones that are late remember?"
"Sorry, I'm not accustomed to waiting on a girl, it's usually the other way around." He said. He was smirking big time now.
Well that definitely just ruined things. I disliked conceited guys. It's one of the reasons I don't really date much. Most guys at school are full of themselves and yet girls still seem to fall at their feet. It's quite displeasing to watch. He was definitely confident in himself, and obviously a player too. Especially with those looks. I was starting to dislike him after he said that.
"Conceited much? Sorry to break it to you Mr., but a bad personality will cancel out your good looks any day, you should really fix that." I said as I closed and locked the door, turned around, and walked past him to the waiting car.
I think he was shocked, but he said nothing as he followed me back to the car. No girl has probably ever told him off before. Most likely use to getting his way. I slid in the backseat and he slid in next to me closing the door.
"Hey Zoe," Amy and Aaron said in unison, smiling obnoxiously at each other.
This is what I've had to put up with all week. Puppy love. Yuck.
"Hi," I replied back.
"Ready to go?" Aaron said as more of a statement than a question, pulling out of the driveway.
He and Amy soon began talking, picking up where they left off I presumed. I was reminded of the person sitting next to me. I turned to look at him. He was looking out the window not paying attention to anyone. He had an odd look on his face like he was conflicted with something. Yep he was still hot though. I laughed quietly. Did I expect him to somehow change in that short period of time? He was being really quiet. I don't think he's said a word since then. Jeez what's his problem. I realized just then that I didn't know his name. I was about to say something, but thought better of it. Maybe I was a bit too harsh earlier...nah. Oh well, he'll get over it...
