The next morning brought a cloudy chilly day for Jack as he walked to see his friend. But he was utterly surprised by what he saw.
There was his pumpkin friend, still asleep. But in place of some of the vines that grew around his base, there was..an arm! An arm completely made of vines and leaves!
"J-Jr! Wake up!" He said in amazement as he patted his friends head softly. The gourd awoke with a grown, as it was the first time he slept in.
"Mm? W-what is it, Jack?" He asked sleepily.
"Y-you have an arm!" Jack said pointing. The squash blinked and looked. There at his side was indeed an arm!
He gasped and raised it and wiggled the fingers.
"I have an arm! This is amazing!" He said with a bright, wide, carved smile.
"This must mean you'll soon be able to grow another arm and legs soon!" Jack concluded. And this made Jack Jr very happy indeed.
As they celebrated the possibility, a smile curled in delight from the darkness.
