Chapter Three - First Day, I'm Not Nervous

"Alright, I can do this" I say to myself as I walk towards my first class.

Stupid Golden Guard, almost making me late. The next time I see him I swear-

"No. Bad. Don't get too worked up" I scold myself. I smooth my hair back, and walk into the classroom.

I had Beast Keeping first, Illusions second, and Bard third, so Beast Keeping is my first class.

I find my way to my seat, and sit down. I can do this. I will not be mentally drained by the time this is over. I can do this.

The second bell that signifies the start of class rings, and I see the teacher walk into the classroom.

"Ok class! Let's get started!" the teacher says. "Today, we'll be taking care of a griffin egg, and raising a griffin for the next 2 months. Since this will be a very important project, you'll be in partners. Since I'm feeling generous, you can choose your partners."

Crap. Partners.

Everyone starts getting up and choosing their partner, while I stay seated awkwardly.

I don't know anyone here... do I just wait till someone picks me? That'd look weird.. but it would be even worse if I got up and just stood there.

I was lost in thought for another minute when I hear someone me go "Hi!"

Did I mention that I jump easily at sudden noises?

I flinched hard, and look behind me to see who it is.

They had an array of colors on their uniform, leading me to believe that they were taking every track. They also had short dark brown hair, and brown eyes. The most interesting thing about them was that their ears were round.

"Hi"

"Sorry for scaring you, but you looked pretty lonely, and you also look new here, so I was wondering if you wanted to be partners!" she chirped. "I'm Luz, by the way."

I almost wanted to hug this stranger in gratitude, but I decided to act professionally.

"Ro" I respond. "and sure, we can be partners."

"Nice to meet you Ro!" she exclaimed. "Let's get started."

We went over to the teacher, and they supplied us with a griffin egg.

"Have fun! Make sure to take care of it, and look to a trusted adult or me if you have any questions."

We spent the rest of class time learning how to take care of a griffin egg, and the signs of it hatching. The bell rung, and I grabbed my bag to leave, but Luz tapped me on the shoulder.

"Do you want to keep the griffin egg or should I?" she asked. "Just warning you that I have an owl demon, and a very rowdy king of demons at home. Should we exchange contacts as well?"

"Oh, we can keep the egg at my house then." I responded. I then wrote my Penstagram on a notecard and handed it to Luz. "Here's my Penstagram."

"Alrighty, thanks!" Luz said. "I'll message you later."

"By the way, you take Illusions and Bard along with Beast Keeping?" she asked.
