The next morning was a day off from work, yet Soobin woke up early and lounged in the living room. Saturdays were the only days he allowed himself to be lazy and do nothing.
But that morning, he had a mission.
"Soobin, I'm off!"
He stood up from his spot to interrupt Ryujin before she got to the door. She claimed she was spending the day with some girlfriends, but Soobin knew the truth: she was spending the day with her mistress.
"Ryujin, wait!" he called.
She paused halfway toward the door. "Soobin, if it's about what we talked about yesterday, the answer is still no."
"No," Soobin quickly denied. "I mean, I know. But.. it's not that. I.. uh. I just want to re-decorate my office."
Ryujin furrowed her eyebrows. "Okay?"
"So I was thinking of getting your advice on what I can do."
"Oh, well sure. I can go over some designs tonig-."
"I have a few things in mind now!" Sooobin grabbed her hand and made her walk with him away from the door, towards the living room.
He sat her down on the couch and grabbed the folder of images he had printed the day before from Pinterest and all other sources he could think of.
"I was thinking either one of these," he said, shoving the folder into her hands, "What do you think?"
Ryujin was just confused but nonetheless went through the file politely.
"These are nice Soobin, but I would need more time to go over these with you, to see what would suit the room and what not. So I'll need time -"
"I like this one the most," Soobin pointed, by now trying to make her stay longer.
Ryujin nodded and folded the side of the print to mark it. "I'll take a look when I come back-."
"What about this one?"
For the next eight minutes or so, Soobin continued to delay Ryujin leaving by asking her various questions and asking her for her input and suggestions, despite his wife attempting to end the conversation. In the end, she gave in and actually went through the designs with him.
Yeonjun has asked him last night to stall Ryujin and make her late with Yeji. t turned out that Yeji hates tardiness. If Soobin could somehow stall Ryujin long enough to make her late every time the two had a date and irritate Yeji just enough, maybe the two would realize that they were not compatible at all, especially since Soobin knew Ryujin hated being told off.
"So, what do you think is the best material for-."
"Soobin, honey I really have to go."
"Just one last-."
"Soobin, I'm already late." His wife stood up as she placed the papers back into the folder and dropped them on the coffee table before grabbing her purse. "I'll take a second look tonight, okay? I have to go."
Rushing to the door, she didn't even kiss him goodbye.
Soobin waited until the door closed before sighing and picking up his phone that was on the coffee table next to the folder.
"I stalled her for as long as I could. She just left."
He left the text to Yeonjun.
Falling back against the couch, he sighed, suddenly feeling tired. Maybe he should just spend the day watching whatever was on TV and snacking on junk food.
Normally, he would call up any of his work friends, but many of them are busy and his close one had moved back to Busan to take over his family's business six months ago.
Maybe he should ask Yeonjun over to spend the day with him, instead. Soobin sat up at the sudden thought. Was he really so lacking in friends to hang out with that he thought about his wife's mistress' fiance?
A ping from his cell phone broke him out of his thoughts.
"I tried to stop Yeji from leaving but she wouldn't stay home with me ☹️"
The corner of Soobin's lip twitched at the sight of the emoji. For someone in his mid-20s, Yeonjun was really kind of childish. But, honestly, that was part of his charm.
A follow-up text came up: "Soobin, I'm bored! Come over! :3"
Soobin's brow lifted at the invitation.Well, it wasn't like he had anything else to do that day. And it definitely beats waiting all day for Ryujin tocome home from a date with her mistress.
"Sure, text me your address."
Putting his phone in his pocket, Soobin gathered the images to put on his table, and then get ready. Maybe he should wear that animal-printed shirt, just so he could use some of them he bought when he went shopping with Yeonjun earlier.
He found himself giddy, he didn't know why. Perhaps, he was just looking forward to spending the day with someone else for a change. His day offs were too lonely sometimes. Besides, he had fun with Yeonjun the last time they hung out.
He wondered what surprises the younger man had in store for him that day.
