And judging by the photo you are seeing, this chapter is bad news. Sorry.

Previously on Just Bad Luck:

"Well, somebody's falling in love." Devilina appears out of nowhere.

"No, I am not. I just like him as a friend."

"Mhm, keep telling yourself that, honey."

"What?" Devilina suddenly laughs.

"At this rate, you'll fall faster than I can say the word 'Chupacabra'." Then she disappears out of thin air.

Now that I think of it, am I really starting to like Mitch Gabe? Is he capable of liking me too? I guess yes, because we share a lot of things.

Maybe we're just like covalent compounds, sharing a bond that makes us compatible.

Arriving home, I go straight up to my room. I have been feeling grumpier than usual and it was not just because I was grounded. Maybe my time of the month was coming. I lock myself up in my room and change into something more comfortable - my favorite shirt and pajamas - then I go sit down on my study table and fire up my laptop. I just remembered that we had a two-page essay to submit in a week. I might finish it now than later.

In the middle of typing, my phone rang. I sigh and got up to fetch it from my bag. I looked at the screen and saw that it was an unknown number. I wonder who this is, so I answered the call.

"Hello?" I asked. The other line was silent. "Who is this?"

"Don't go out." A low voice said.

"What?"

"Don't go out of your house." He repeated.

"Why? Who are you?" I asked, panic starting to rise in me.

"Just trust me. Whatever you do, do not go out. I'm helping you." He said, his voice firm.

"Wh-" The line went dead.

What the heck just happened? Something glints and catches my eye. It was the necklace. I still haven't known who it belongs to. And what bugs me more were the letters. I haven't received any letters since the one I found in my locker. Then I realized, what if the letters and the necklace were connected? And that call. . . That call was weird in so many levels.

Suddenly, my mom calls me downstairs. I go downstairs, my head whirling with thoughts about those three things. Ever since those things came, my life changed. Not only that, but things were also going suspiciously normal ever since the last letter. I go to my mother and she motions me to help her prepare the table. I set the table and dropped a fork that shook me out of my thoughts.

"Grace!" My mother scolded.

"Sorry." I mumbled. My mind elsewhere.

We ate dinner afterwards and my mom let me wash the dishes after because I was grounded.

"Hey, Grace dear." Mom says.

"Yeah?" I turn around to face her. Wiping my hands as I was already finished washing the dishes.

"Could you give this Mrs. Jameson tonight? She needs it for something." She says and hands me a book. Then I remembered the call a while ago.

"Can it wait until tomorrow? I'll just give it to David tomorrow at school." I reason out. She raises her eyebrow but doesn't questions then she just shrugs. A sigh of relief left my mouth. I don't know what the caller meant but I know that he was serious about it. So I took the chance to trust him.
