Out Of The Gates

*Adam's POV*

"GOOOOO!!!!"

 Me and Kyle rushed off the starting line, moving easily with our new technique. I felt my blood pumping with excitement as I now felt confident in my new team member. I looked around, assuming that we must be in the lead by now.

 I could have never been more wrong.

    Right at our heels, in front of us now, was the team of Ty and Tyler, with everyone else close behind.

  "See you at the finish Adam!" Ty called as he sped by. I put on a slight grin. Challenge Accepted.

  "Come on Kyle! I laughed as we sped up to try and match our speed to Ty and Tyler's. I could hear Kyle laughing with me. I smiled.

   "You're not getting rid of me that easily!" I nudged Ty's shoulder as they sped up again.      

  "We'll see about that!" Brotato yelled looking behind at us. They began speeding up even more this time. They must have been at least 10 feet ahead of us now, and here came the first obstacle.

  "Hurdles? Not too bad, I did track for like, an hour.." Kyle was trying to boost our confidence, I could tell. Can't say it didn't work though, I have to admit, just the fact that he had totally failed at that confidence attempt, made me feel a little better.

  "Kyle, you have no track experience do you?"

"Nope, Nada, Zero, ZILCH."

  We laughed once more. The first hurdle was coming up at a rapid pace as Kyle and I coordinated our jump. "One..Two...Three!!" We sprung across the first hurdle and started running again. As we ran, I began to feel something moving under my feet..

  "Hey, that wasn't to ba-"

  "Kyle watch out!" I threw myself to the ground, pulling us both down and out of the way. We stopped dead in our tracks as a hurdle came bursting out of the concrete in front of us.

 "......Whoa..." I could hear Kyle whisper next to me.

 "Whoa is right......."  We stood staring at the track in front of us. As we look forward, tons of runners were being thrown off the ground by the hurdles sprouting out at any given moment. And when their job was done, they went back into the the floor, as quick as they came, waiting for the next time they had to rise.

 "W-What is this?! This isn't natural, is it?" Kyle felt the hurdle that had formed in front of us. He jumped back when it got sucked into the floor, without leaving  single trace that it was there.

  "..Well what do we do now?" I turned to Kyle again.

 "..Adam, I suck at plans, remember the Red Bull?" He gave me a hopeless shrug. We sat in dead silence for a couple of seconds, until Kyle shot up again and put a hand on my shoulder, "Wait a second!"

 I gave him a confused look, "What? Did you think of a plan?!"

   "No that's ridiculous, but I did realize something!"

"...Ok Kyle...but if it won't help us I don't see a poin-"

 "No it does! It involves you!" 

I gave a slight grin. "I'm listening."

"Ok ok, How-did you know that hurdle was coming? You pulled me out of the way remember?"

  My god, he was right! I had totally forgot about that!

"Uh, well I could just....feel it?"

"You could-feel it?"

 "I dunno! All I DO know, is that I felt something in the ground, and I pulled you out of the way." I crossed my arms because I knew he didn't believe me. I probably did sound a bit crazy though.
