I quickly moved through the soft snow, flakes falling all around me. It was silent, tranquil. The sounds of rustling pine needles and wind was strangely comforting. I walked down the small trail towards my home, the sun barely peeking out from the horizon. I gripped the small handheld heater tightly, not letting it go. A jacket draped over me kept me safe from the cold. I stepped out into the clearing, my home staring back at me from the edge of the field.

I turned, going towards the small shed. Its windows were frosted over, snow powdering the edges of them. A slight feeling of worry getting worse as I circled around the shed. I stepped towards the front of the shed, walking right up to the door. I slipped my fingers in the crack of the door, opening it.

I stepped into the room, it was bitterly cold. The floorboards creaked as I approached Cubic, his form curled up slightly.

He looked up at me quickly, "Oh, it's just you..."

"Who else would it be?" I laughed a bit, staring at him.

He looked away for a second before looking at what I was holding, confusion in his eyes. "What's that for?"

I set it down, pulling out a box of matches "It's something to help you. I thought you might need it." I sheepishly smiled.

"I-" he froze, "Thanks Y/N..." he looked away, smiling.

I bent down, striking one of the matches. I stared at the small flame on its head, before tossing it into the little box in the heater.

The room slowly warmed up, becoming comfortable.

"O-Oh, Y/N... can you stay here tonight?" He asked, a hint of worry on his tongue.

"Uh, why? Are you okay?" I asked, a bit nervous.

"Yeah... I just- I don't want to be alone." He looked away, a soft look in his eyes.

I couldn't help but chuckle slightly, a deeper tint of color on my face.

"Okay, I'll stay with you. Let me go grab some things from inside, I'll be back." I stood up, causing him to look at me for a second before nodding.

I quietly made my way to the door, stepping out into the frost. The cold was much more noticeable now, the darkness only amplifying it. I carefully stepped through the thick powder, trying not to slip on the icier patches.

I walked up to my home, the lights on. I pulled out my keys, unlocking the door. The handle was frigid, feeling almost like ice. I stepped inside, the warm air hitting me. I looked around the home, the sounds of the TV playing loudly echoed through the halls. I turned, looking into the little room my brother sat in, unfazed. He didn't even see me.

I knocked on the wall, causing him to pause his movie, staring at me with an annoyed look.

"H-Hey, I'm going to be going to a friend's house tonight, okay?" I said, trying to keep my voice low, "Can you tell mom and dad for me?"

"Since when did you have friends?" He teased, chuckling.

"Whatever," I looked away, "Just tell them, please."

"Okay, fine, but you owe me for covering for you." He smirked.

"I- Okay..." I looked away, turning to the stairwell.

I rushed up to my room, grabbing anything and everything I could. I held it tightly In my arms as I rushed down the stairs, almost crashing into mom.

She looked at me, tilting her head "Hey, your brother told me you were going out to see a friend. Have fun!" She smiled at me.
