Warning: angst, mention of depression

"What's wrong, Darlin?"
Cash noticed you weren't feeling well as soon as you walked through the door. You had obviously been crying, your eyes were still blurry, even though you tried your hardest to hide it.
You felt like you couldn't speak without bursting into tears again, so you just shrugged your shoulders. In all honesty, you really had no clue what bothered you so much. Nothing bad happened that day. But you were feeling down nonetheless, like the whole weight of the world was on your shoulders and you were on the verge of breaking down.
He gave you a weak smile and opened his arms for you. "Do you want a hug? Or do you need to be alone?" It was usually one of these two options, and he hoped you'd go for the hug because he couldn't stand when you decided to leave him out and suffer alone. It happened though, and he always felt completely helpless. So he was more than pleased when you walked up to him and wrapped your arms around him, snuggling into his frame. He wrapped his arms around you as well and placed a soft kiss on top of your head. One of his hands travelled up and gently stroked your head. When he heard you sob, he held you a little tighter. "It's okay, Darlin. Everything's gonna be fine." Cash's voice echoed in your ears as he repeated those words over and over.
You both stood there, you crying onto his shoulder while he caressed you. After some minutes, when he noticed your tears slowly subsided, he started again. "Come on, doll. Let's get in something more comfortable, so we can cuddle in bed."
You looked up at him, eyes smudgy from your running makeup, as he whiped away some of your tears. "Cash, it's just 5. We can't go to bed."
"Why not? We're two adults, we can do whatever we want. Or do you want to do something else?" He replied before brushing his nose against yours and lightly pressing his lips on yours.
You weakly smiled at him and nodded your head. "Bed sounds great."
He returned your smile and intertwined his fingers with yours before guiding you upstairs to your shared bedroom.
As you stood in the middle of the room, he turned to face you and smiled again. Then he started unbuttoning your blouse. "Do you want your pajamas? Or one of my shirts?" Your shy smile was answer enough for him and he went to get one of his FTR shirts once he took off of your top. Meanwhile, you unclasped your bra and got rid of your jeans and socks until you wore nothing but your panties. When he returned with his clothing, he walked up to you and ran his thumb along your jaw before gently kissing you. "I love you. You know that, don't ya?" He asked to let you know just how much you were loved.
"I know, Baby. I love you too."
Then he handed you the shirt and changed from his normal clothes in shorts and a tank top. Cash wasn't much taller than you, so his shirt went just below your ass.
"Now come here, let's cuddle." He almost whispered when he threw the blanket to the side and laid down on the mattress, reaching his hand out for you to grab it.
Your eyes got blurry again, from the pain you were harbouring inside, but also because of the man in front of you. He had no idea just how much he meant to you. It was almost painful to love somebody the way you loved him.
You crawled up next to him and snuggled into his side, head resting on his chest immediately. Cash put the blanket over the two of you and then wrapped his arms around your body. "It's okay, Darlin. Everything is gonna be alright. I'm here, you don't have to go through this alone." He said while one of his hands soothingly rubbed your back. When the sobbing started again, he pressed his lips to your forehead, telling you again and again that it will get better soon.

After some time, he felt the shaking of your body get weaker, and the tension slowly subsided as you relaxed in his arms. He smiled a little to himself before asking you if something happened at work.

"No. Everything's fine at work. I honestly have no idea why I am feeling this way right now." You sniffled a bit. "I'm just crying over nothing."
"It's okay."
"No, Cash, it's not okay. It's fucked up." You paused for a second before mumbling "I'm fucked up."
"Darlin, look at me. You are not fucked up. You are depressed. Those are two very different things. So right now, you feel like everything is falling apart around you. But I promise you, it won't. I'm here for you. It WILL get better. It always does, right?"
"Yeah..."
"Right now won't be any different. We'll make it through this in the end." He added before placing another kiss on your forehead.
You grinned at him before kissing his cheek and resting your head on his chest again.
A few moments passed before you started again. "I am sorry, Baby."
"For what?"
"For being like this. For making you have to deal with me. It's not your fault I'm miserable."
He rubbed your back once more before pulling you as close to him as possible. "It's not your fault either, Darlin. I knew what I signed up to when I said 'I love you' for the first time. You told me right away about your problems. And I made it my job to take care of you when everything in your mind gets dark. I'll gladly do it. Don't get me wrong though, I don't like you being like this, I much rather have you be all goofy and happy. Nothing beats the sound of you cackling like a witch."
"Hey, I don't cackle like a witch!" You laughed a little at his comment.
"Yes, you do." He retorted. "And it's beautiful."
You lifted your head up from his chest and ever so lightly kissed his jawline. "I don't deserve you, Cash."
He turned his head a little so he could look you in the eyes. "True." He smiled. "You deserve someone way smarter than me. But you're stuck with me now, and I won't let you go. Ever."
You returned his smile and crawled up a little to place your lips on his while your foot rubbed along his leg and your legs then entangled. "I love you so much."

His smile just got wider as he turned to lay on his side, pulling you flush against him, hand resting at the small of your back. "I love you too, doll." Then he started placing little kisses all over your face: he kissed the corner of your mouth, the tip of your nose, your temple, your forehead, your chin, your cheeks. Everywhere, and he didn't stop when he heard you giggle, no, he continued his sweet assault until you were full on laughing.

Amazing how this man could make you feel better almost instantly. You truly didn't deserve him, but you wouldn't let him go, either.
Ever.
