He was nervous. Which was weird, he had never been the nervous one. Cash always stressed out before big matches, or matches in general, but not him. So he sat there, tying his wrestling boots, wondering what was different this time. His partner, who sat next to him, noticed the change in him, too, so he cleared his throat and looked at his best friend. "What's wrong Dax? You're really tense."
The bald man sighed. "I don't know. Just a little giddy I guess, that's all."
Cash shook his head. "You don't think it has anything to do with a certain someone who goes by the name Y/N?" He couldn't suppress his laughter when he saw the look on Dax's face: He looked like a 6 year old who got caught with his hands down the cookie jar.
"I-I have n-no idea what you mean, Cash", he stammered.
"Really, Dax?" the other questioned. "It has nothing to do with the fact that last time you two saw each other, you both basically confessed your love, but then did NOTHING about it?" He then put his hand on the other's shoulder. "Why don't you just go to her, and tell her how you feel? I'm sure she'll even kiss you for good luck for our match."
He frowned at his friend's comment, but Dax knew that Cash was right, maybe not about the confessing part, but he definitely wanted to talk to you. No, he needed to talk to you. About anything really, just not the confessing part.
After a minute of internally debating with himself, trying to talk himself out of it, he stood up and made his way out of the locker room to catering, where he hoped you were still at.
As soon as he entered the large room, he scanned every corner for you, but could not find you. When he noticed one of your friends, he walked over and asked them about your whereabouts. And much to his dismay, he learned that you already started working at the merch stand. He couldn't go there now...

------------------------

"There you go! Enjoy your new shirt!"
You smiled brightly at the man, who then made his way back into the arena. Once the Pay Per View had begun, only few people came up to you to buy something. Usually, they hit the bathroom and decided to buy something on their way back.
Although this was the time of work you disliked the most, because it was boring to just wait for somebody to come up to you, you were glad this was the case now. FTR's match had just started, and you could now watch it on your phone.
It was only a few minutes into the match when you realized something was off. Dax held his arm, pain written all over his face. You knew from Cash that there wasn't any injury spot planned. This was not a work. This was real, very real. Your eyes were glued to the tiny screen as Dax made his way to the back, leaving Cash on his own in the ring.
Panic washed over you: what if he was injured and out for months? They had worked so hard to get to this point, they would become 7-Star FTR tonight. If he was out for a longer time, it would kill all momentum they had built since their match against the Briscoes. They might lose all their titles. Dax would beat himself up because of it.
For a brief moment, you thought about leaving your merch stand and rush back to him, but you knew you shouldn't do that because you might get in trouble or even lose your job if you left the stand unattended, and you couldn't possibly just burst in the medical room or wherever Dax was and cause a scene.
...And maybe he didn't want you there, you thought. In fact, you were a little hurt that he didn't make an attempt to meet you today. Usually on a big day, you'd have a coffee with the two of them in the afternoon, make fun of Cash and his unnecessary nervousness before the match, crack some jokes to ease him up and help them relax a bit before they got prepared for their match and you started working. None of that happened today. You'd seen them from afar, Cash shot you a smile and gave you a little wave, but Dax's eyes stayed glued on something else, not you, before he dragged his tag partner back to the locker rooms - where they stayed the whole day.
