requested on tumblr: Okay hear me out... a fluff fic with wardlow just being absolutely smitten over the reader and would do anything to protect them. 😚🤌🏼
You looked out of the window at the buildings rushing by, all blurrying into one long concrete wall while you were softly humming to the song on the radio. It had been a while since you last got the chance to ride along with your boyfriend and see him wrestle live.
In the driver's seat, Wardlow smiled to himself. He just loved having you around. From the moment he first saw you last year, he knew you were the one. He had danced around his feelings for a bit because his career was finally starting to take off and he thought a relationship might hinder him. He had never been so wrong. You were the best thing that ever happened to him. Wrestling included.
When he had to stop at a red light, he put his hand on your thigh and squeezed it lightly which made you turn your head to look at him. Man, he loved your smile. If there was anything that would always make him feel better and calm him down, it'd be you smiling.
Just as he was slowly leaning over to you to place a tender kiss on your lips, the car behind him started honking. Right, green light. He glared through the rear window, and was ready to flip the douche off, but your hand on his cheek made him stop.
Before he knew it, your lips gently brushed against his before you started nibbling at his lower lip. As fast as the intimate moment occurred, it vanished by yet another aggressive honking from the car behind. Before he could even react, it was now you giving the guy the middle finger. Wardlow chuckled, you were definitely the one.
When you arrived at the arena, you knew better than to get out of the car. It was a habit of him to open all doors for you, car doors included. At the beginning of your relationship, this made you feel a little uneasy, but you soon realized that it was one of his ways to show you he loved you. And with time, you enjoyed being treated like a lady.
As you now stood outside in the warm summer sun, you couldn't help but admire his towering frame next to you. You were by no means petite, but Wardlow made you look like it nonetheless.
"It's a beautiful day today, right?" You asked him as he unloaded the car.
"It is, princess. Even more so because you are here with me." He answered before gently kissing you and taking your hand in his. At first he hated how weak you made him, he always felt like his legs would give in when you smiled at him. Back then, it was Maxwell who had told him it was okay, and he was just madly in love with you. He'd get used to the butterflies and the weak knees and actually embrace the feeling. And he was right. While you walked across the parking lot to the entrance, both of you greeted a few of his colleagues. You leaned against his side, loving being so close to him. It was a beautiful day indeed.
The mood changed as soon as you entered the arena. Wardlow hadn't even put his two feet inside when the security guards came up to the two of you, looking almost pitiful at him. The smile on his face vanished and he frowned a bit, not because he was about to be handcuffed, but he had to let go of your hand.
As much as you were excited for the show and seeing him wrestle again, your face wore a matching frown: you hated his current storyline with MJF. The whole handcuffed act -as tempting as it looked (maybe you should try that with him later) - bothered you. He didn't mind though, only focused on finally getting the chance to break MJF like a glowstick and being finally released from his contract.
"Alright, let's go boys. Someone take my suitcase please." He said after he was cuffed, looking over to you and smiling. He needed to make sure you knew he was okay. He hated seeing you worried. You returned his smile and hooked your arm under his, leaning into his side once more. "I love you."
The words echoed in his ears, a melody he'd never get sick of.
"I love you too, princess."You walked along with him and the 7 security guards to get to the locker room when one of the men decided to get ahead of you. He didn't really watch where he was going, and accidently bumped your shoulder while passing you.
Wardlow's body tensed up, and a second later you could see the vein on his temple. He was about to snap. "Hey, idiot! Are you fucking blind?!"
You squeezed his arm softly in an attempt to calm him down, but it wasn't much use. The security guard stopped in his tracks, but didn't know what your boyfriend was all about; he hadn't even noticed he ran into you.
"Next time you run into my lady and hurt her, I will powerbomb you straight to hell. Actually, I'll do that if you EVER touch her again in any kind of way." He looked menacing, chest heaving and looking daggers at the poor man.
"It's okay, baby. It wasn't that bad." You tried to reason with him, but also secretly loved this overprotective side of him."No, it's not okay, princess." He replied, looking down at you before turning to the guy once more. "Now man up and fucking apologize!" He yelled, looking more and more intimidating as the seconds passed by.
"I-I'm s-sorry, Miss."
You nodded at him, feeling a little sorry for the poor guy. Before Wardlow could start again, and you were sure he would because that apology sucked, the security guard ran off as if his life depended on it. It probably did.
"You didn't have to do that, baby. But thank you." You said to him and stood on your toes to kiss him again, cupping his face. He smiled into the kiss, his angry face gone.
"It's my job to take care of you. As long as I'm here, I will make sure no one hurts you, princess." He answered while offering you his elbow again to hook your arm around.
"Now let's go, I have some ass whooping to deliver." He said, taking a mental note to treat that idiot who bumped into you extra nice. You giggled next to him. "Do one extra Powerbomb just for me, alright?"
He chuckled along. "Will do, princess, will do."
