"Brother-in-law," The insanely loud voice that shouldn't belong to a 12-years-old screamed immediately after I walked through the gates of the Gentry's mansion, and before I could brace myself, a tiny figure was running, lunging at me with so much speed that I feared the figure would pummel me to the ground if it should even graze my body.
The body slammed into mine and held tightly onto my legs as if it was going to suffocate the life out of them.
The energy and figure were embodied by Darasimi Gentry and she didn't look like she was going to let go of my legs anytime soon.
"Brother-in-law," She screamed again, "See something, I told you my sister isn't going to marry anyone but you."
"It's just a date, Princess," I corrected her but still couldn't stop a smile from spreading across my face.
"Yes, it's a date for now but later later, it'll be a wedding." She was looking up at me as she said it with the biggest beam on her face that I had no option but to indulge her.
"Yeah, sure."
"See something," She let go of my legs, "I'm going to be the flower girl on that day. Yaaaahhh!!!" She screamed excitedly, all the while jumping before she raced off towards the direction of the main house.
God! What a ball of energy!
I started walking in the direction of the building with my heart beating louder with each step I took.
Thump
Thump
Thump
God! I could only hope my heart wasn't going to burst out of its ribcage before I even get to see her.
I really had it bad. Terrible even.
I got to the front door and my heart jumped to my throat for another reason. It jumped at the irrational fear of meeting her dad in the sitting room or him meeting me in the sitting room.
I gulped down a big lump and I mentally prepped myself before stepping into the main house. And immediately I stepped inside, the door shut behind me with a loud thud.
It shut on its own with so much that the walls close to it shook and you know, it gave off this chilly vibes of walking into a haunted house and I felt exactly like how Chidi and Rotimi must have felt when they entered Babayaro's house in DOD.
But no mystical figure or weird-looking mannequins was hiding behind the door, it was just Princess stepping out from behind the door with a huge smile on her face.
God! Where did this little girl get all these strengths from?
"Brother-in-law, come and sit down."
And before I could even gather myself, she was already reaching for my hands and pulling me fully into the sitting room and making me sit on one of the huge sofas.
I didn't have the luxury of doing this; of sitting down and relaxing lest their dad mistakenly walks in on me.
"Where's Du..."
"Don't jinx it please," She interrupted me with something that looked like a serious look on her face and it was comical to look at because Darasimi Gentry never looked serious.
"So, what should I offer you?" And just like that, the seriousness was gone because she was now practically jumping in front of me as if there was a ball of energy coursing through her veins, making it impossible for her to stand still.
