Park
My friends, there are many surprises in the world. They happen every day, ever hour, every minute. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, in different degrees of action, in all lengths of sentences. But, my dear readers, all surprises can be grouped into two categories.
The good surprises. And the bad surprises.
Good surprises are like, a husband and wife, after trying for so long, succeed in creating a baby. Your boyfriend of five years proposed. Your friends threw you this gigantic surprise birthday party and totally made your year. You got a car. You won a free trip to Disneyland (now that's the best surprise in the whole entire universe).
Then there are the bad surprises. Your dog died. You just realized you had homework. It's your anniversary and your girlfriend presents you with the gift of breaking up because she started having a crush on the guy down at the bookstore. You knocked a girl up even though you're both still seniors in high school with high dreams of getting into an advanced college.
Well, I hate surprises. Even if it's the good ol' surprise party, I'll still hate anyone who throws me one. Even if you're my father. Lately, I've had a lot of surprises. Over and over. And it's annoying.
I had hoped that after finding out that my bodyguard was dating one of the most annoying people on the planet, the surprises would stop. But no. The day ended with one big whopping unexpected turn-out.
I was kissing Alec Darkwood.
I had nowhere this came from. One moment I was waking up from this horrible replay of Logan and Sophia sucking each other's faces in broad daylight. Nex thing I knew, Alec had grabbed my wrist, pulled me towards him, and introduced our lips together. I stood frozen while his lips moved on mine, his hands cupping my face. There was this part of me that screamed at Alec mentally, and my fists clenched, about to punch him in the eye. Again.
Alec pulled away and pressed his lips against my ear. "Play along."
Play along for what? Why was he kissing? Agh, so many questions, no answers! But Alec didn't give me time to hesitate as he pulled me closer, moving his lips back onto mine to stifle any response.
The kiss didn't last for much longer, because in thirty seconds, we heard Elijah's set of bells jingling angrily as the door opened and shut. Alec and I sprang apart, dread pasted identically on our faces.
"I am never ever doing that again," Alec gasped. Elijah chuckled, and patted Alec on the back.
"Well, it was very convincing if that made you feel any better. He looked so angry when he marched out of here. I wouldn't be surprised if his room is smashed by tomorrow morning."
"What was that for?!" I screeched, lunging at him with my talons outstretched. I'm kidding, I actually don't possess talons for hands. Alec caught me in his arms, but that enough had me leaping onto the counter, practically hissing angrily at him.
"Don't hug me!" I screamed. "What is wrong with you?" My eyes wide and disbelieving. "Why'd you kiss me? Don't tell me you like me? You can't like me, either, Alec, it's not possible!"
Alec sighed, frustration bursting in his tone as he ran his fingers through his silky black hair. Once again, purple and blue danced underneath the lamps of Paradise Coffee, looking like raven feathers had been sewed into his hair.
"I don't like you, alright? Not in that way!"
"Then why'd you kiss me?"
"I was helping you!" he said angrily. "And stop yelling at me!"
