Eleven didn't escape the lab that night without help. Her older 'sister' Five helped her escape.
Yet she didn't plan to save herself, she stayed in the lab, getting poked and prodded while they forced her to expand on her abilities and use them for their own advantage. Telekinesis, energy manipulation, and neuroelectric interfacing, allowing her to be the cause of waking nightmares and reading thoughts at her 'Papas' will.
Once they had began to pack away anything and everything of importance after they had caught word of them being shut down again, Five made her escape, causing each and every scientist to experience their own living nightmares, all but one Brenner.
Presumably dead, he wasn't a threat to Eleven any more but he wasn't truly aiming for her, only wanting to use her as a pawn once again. He only cared about one thing 005. He held a soft spot for the girl but 005 didn't believe it, after all he was the cause of her fears, always lying to get ahead. But she couldn't control their fears, only her own.
It was late at night when she ran straight into Dustin Henderson and Steve Harrington.... Literally straight into then as Steve had to slam on the breaks as they both swore. Dustin shoved Steve out of the car to investigate and once Steve saw the tattoo and her shaking demeanor he comforted her and talked her into letting them help her. Dustin and Vee as she began to be called became siblings as his mom took her as her own, while Steve Harrington became her older brother, a protector she always wanted.
They spent the summer defeating the mind flayed and his army of melted people and rats, but Hawkins wasn't done fighting yet.
Love was a battle itself, Eddie Munson was the cause and Vee had no clue what romantic love was like and Eddie vowed he'd show her. She wanted was a normal high school life, although she knew it wouldn't happen cause she could never forget her past.
They had a bigger problem that had arisen, one seemingly invisible and daunting. The leader of the battle had one more thing to add to their puzzle piece before they would achieve them. Believing they had a larger purpose and belonging.
