Chapter 18: FINALE

Big Bang Monokuma slams its fist down onto the balcony as the two heroes quickly jump out of the way.

Model Z Komaru runs up the beast's arm, firing a volley of Buster shots into its eye, eventually managing to get a few slashes off with the Z-Saber before being flung off.

Big Bang Monokuma then fires out a swarm of homing missiles, all of which are deflected by Model X Toko's Buster. They then throw out their own Shield Boomerang, grinding into Big Bang Monokuma's eye.

The beast then jumps back and attempts to slam into them with a running start, but it falls forward after a pounding from the combined charge shots of the two heroes.

Model Z Komaru and Model X Toko then start slashing their own sabers through the beast's eye, and it staggers back.

The group splitting apart again, they all throw themselves into the air, weapons ready. Toko's stun gun, Komaru's Hacking Gun, Zero's Buster Shot, and X's X-Buster all start charging, their energy combining into one final Truth Bullet.

Hope.

They all fire off, the golden projectile hitting its target dead on. Big Bang Monokuma begins sparking as it falls backward, small explosions appearing on its body.

It then stands upright, and its red eye shatters, as Shirokuma's head flies out.

It bounces a few times, then lands next to Zero, looking up in terror at him. Zero plants his foot on the side of Shirokuma's head.

"W- Wait! I can explai-" Shirokuma starts as Zero slams his foot down, destroying the head and A.I chip inside. The kid's uprising finally over.

The area is silent. No noise, the howling wind finally stopping. Zero turns and walks back into the room from before, only to find Monaca crushed under a pile of rubble. Without saying a word, Zero takes the key from her, and walks away, throwing it back to Komaru and Toko.

The red smog in the sky begins to clear, shining blue skies beginning to roll in. X catches up with Zero as he wanders, no definitive goal in mind, eventually sitting down on a park bench in front of Towa Hills, having been completely crushed by the corpse of Big Bang Monokuma.

X sits down next to Zero, exhaling. "So... What do we do now?"

"I'm not quite sure. I might go see if Future Foundation needs any assistance, or I might just settle down and relax for a while. You can do what you choose, X." Zero responds, looking up to the clearing skies.

"Whatever you do, I'll do with you. We've fought together for centuries, no need to stop now."

Zero chuckles, looking over at X with a smile on his face. "You're right. We should stay here for the time being, once we're sure everything is under control, we'll head out to meet up with Future Foundation."

"Sounds like a plan." X agrees, nodding his head. Just then, they are approached by a figure with long brown hair and red eyes, wearing a school uniform.

"So... You're the wrench in our works." The figure states, his eyes not leaving Zero's. "You were the one who halted our plans."

Zero gives the figure a questioning look.

"I am Izuru Kamukura, and I was the one who put the A.I chips inside those two Monokuma units. They contained the consience of Junko Enoshima, and we were planning on a much greater despair, until you destroyed one of them."

"I have a question." Zero states. "How do you already know this? It happened only a few minutes ago."

"That is not important, what matters is that you know who they are. They are the Remnants of Despair, they're attempting to carry on the legacy of Junko Enoshima. Class 77-B of Hope's Peak Academy."

"Alright, I'll be watching out for them... But why are you telling me this when you'd probably want to remain a secret?"

"You misunderstand me, Zero. I am not a part of the Remnants. I am just a part in all of this. Hope or Despair, that is my mission, to find which is more unpredictable. Whichever one comes out on top, I will fight for."

"So... Why are you talking to us?"

"I wanted to inform you of our plan. If the Future Foundation captures the Remnants, they will be put into a device known as the Neo World Program. There, I will upload Junko's consience into the system. I wanted you both to enter the program yourselves, just for a little extra spice."

X and Zero give each other a look of questioning. 

"Of course, I am not requiring you to do any of this. I know you two are busy." Izuru states calmly.

"What's the catch?" X asks.

"I will convince the Future Foundation to transfer your souls into new bodies, ones almost identical to those of humans. We will take out your memory chips and give you new ones, effectively overriding your current ones."

X and Zero then look at each other, and a discussion passes between them.

"What happens after?"

"We will take your souls and put them back into your current forms, give you your memory chips back, and let you free. I can guaruntee you that you will come out as if nothing had ever happened."

Another look between the two Reploids.

"Alright, we'll do it. We've got nothing better to do." Zero confirms, standing up.

"Alright then. I will notify you when the plan takes place. Until then, enjoy your time." And just like that, Izuru leaves, still having shown no emotion during the interaction.

"I'll get to working on damage repairs." Zero states, looking over to X. "You can work on finding survivors."

"Got it. I'll see you around, Zero." X agrees, teleporting away, leaving Zero alone.

He looks up to the sky again, and smiles. He could tell that this world had a lot in store for him after all. He teleports back to the hospital he awoke on after defeating Weil, and thinks about everything that's happened since then.

'To think we're just getting started. There's everything still left to do here, whatever that Izuru guy's plan is, and a whole world out there waiting for us. But I know for certain that I won't be alone in all this.' He muses, grinning as he dashes forward, jumping over the fence walls, and down to the streets below, heading off for the Resistance.
