"Bro, what the hell happened? You need to calm the fuck down before I actually kick you out."

"I just—I can't fucking believe they know everything that happened! They know about what Graham did to my sister, they know what she tried to do to herself, they know she's in that facility and they don't care! They're all just a bunch of fucking vultures trying to profit off my family's suffering and I am sick and tired of it!"

My breaths came in panting gasps and heaving gasps, the pain of everything I'd tried to keep under wraps suddenly exploding in my face like a faulty hand grenade.

"I know you're upset, but there's ways we can kill the story."

"No Cor, there's no way to stop it now. People are all posting on my Twitter and Bree's, too, saying they're praying for her. Calling her a liar and saying that Graham would never be abusive. Some of them are trying to cancel her for this? It's all so totally fucked up."

"Why didn't you tell Ivy to just reschedule today with everything happening? Why did you just sit there and let her argue with you with all this going on?"

Corbin inched closer to where I sat on the couch with my head in my hands, my heart feeling like it was only seconds away from racing right out of my chest and splattering itself against the glass separating the rest of the room from the recording booth.

"I don't know—why would she even care, anyway? All she wants is to write the songs and get out of my life for good. And I don't even blame her, either. Seriously, would you want to hang out with me right now?"

"Well, I'm still here, aren't I?"

I couldn't help the derisive snort that filled the room with something other than my wallowing self-pity.

"Yeah, but I don't know if it's because you're actually my friend, or because I'm paying you."

"Damn. I should probably punch you for that one, but considering all you're going through, I'll let it slide. But let me tell you one thing, and I'll shut up about it. You're my best friend—whether I'm your sound engineer and producer or not, I will always be there for you when you need me. And when it comes to the press I can't really help, but I can help you get along with your songwriter that you'll be seeing everyday for the next few weeks. You know, to make all our lives easier."

"Oh yeah? And how do you think we'll be able to do that?"

"Well...you could start by apologizing."

"And why the hell should I be the one to apologize?"

Corbin's unamused look bled into the one that he gave me when I told him he couldn't have the last french fry from my burger meal.

"Do you seriously not remember what you said to her?"

"Not really...I kind of blacked out."

"You called her desperate, said she gave herself too much credit which basically I took to mean as she wasn't as good a writer as you, and then you answered her phone and when you told her that her boyfriend was calling her and she tried to say something, you cut her off to tell her that you didn't see her in any way other than a fan. So, you basically said she meant absolutely nothing to you just because she's your fan, which, dick move in itself, but its even worse when you consider what's going on between the two of you."
