"Hey Rhi, wake up. It's almost time for dinner." Rhiannon was gently nudged by Matt underneath her.
"How long have I been asleep?" the girl rubbed her eyes and sat up.
"About 2 hours. I slept for like a hour but woke up an hour ago. I didn't wanna wake you but I'm starving." the brunette boy explained while stretching.
"Why didn't you wake me up?" she furrowed her eyebrows and yawned.
"I know that you've had a really hard day and I didn't want to disturb you too much. And plus you looked peaceful."
"Well thank you for letting me sleep. God knows I needed that."
"Its the least I could do. I hate naps, but with you they were kinda tolerable."
"Really?" Rhiannon raised her eyebrows sarcastically.
"Yeah. But hey, I'm super hungry. Wanna go downstairs and eat some food? We preferred your favorite, pizza with every topping on it."
"Ugh. You know me so well."

After everyone was done eating, it was time for Rhiannon to head back home.
"Alright. I gotta go home. It was fun hanging out with you knuckleheads." Rhiannon said getting up from the couch and started walking over to the door.
"It's dark, lemme walk you home." Matt got up from his spot on the couch and meeting Rhiannon at his front door.
"Ugh teenage romance makes me sick." Nick joked but got up and hugged Rhiannon. "Don't be afraid to call us if you need us."
"Ok. I'm probably just gonna spend all of tomorrow in bed, but I'll call you guys if I get bored." Rhi shrugged her shoulders.
"I'll bring snacks." Chris raised his hand.
"You do realize that my house also has snacks, right?" Rhi raised her eyebrows at the boy.
"Yeah, Lori has always had the best snacks in town. She doesn't need your pity snacks." Nick said turning around to face his brother on the couch.
"This kid just always disrespecting me." Chris shook his head and got up from the couch to wrap Rhiannon in a hug.
"Alright. I'll see you guys tomorrow, but that's if I'm up to it." the girl raised her eyebrows then waved goodbye to Chris and Nick.
As Matt and Rhiannon were walking down the street towards her house, Rhiannon held onto his arm and laid her head on his shoulder.
"Thank you for being there for me." she said looking up at the boy she was latched onto.
"It's really no problem. If I was going through a similar situation, I know that you'd be there for me in a heartbeat."
"I know. It just feels nice to know that you have someone to go to when your in the middle of a breakup."
"Middle? I thought you already ended things with him."
"I did, but he's probably gonna try to reach out to me to try and make-up."
"Well if he tries, just let me know. I won't hesitate to beat his ass."
"Right. Like your gonna beat his ass from Massachusetts when he's in New Jersey."
"I don't like the way he treated you. That's enough for me to wanna be mad."
"Why do you care so much?"
"Because I love you. And I've loved you since last summer. And it killed me when you were feeling guilty because we hung out. Rhiannon you deserve so much better than that asshole." At that point, Matt had stopped walking and was looking at the Rhiannon beside him.
Rhiannon was at a loss for words. The only thing she could do was just look at the boy beside her. She didn't know if what she was gonna do next was gonna be something she would regret or not.
She kissed Matt. She'd known that Matt liked her, but hearing the words come out of his mouth changed something in her. She no longer was thinking of Joe and his stupid excuses to treat her like shit. She realized she had started dating him to subconsciously get over her best friend. It didn't work. Not one bit.
When Rhiannon pulled away from the kiss she mumbled a "sorry."
"Hey don't worry about it. I really do love you and I wanted you to know that."
"Well about that. I did know before this. But hearing it from you makes me feel so much better."
"Wait. YOU KNEW??"
"Yeah. Val and Nick told me when I first got here."
"You've known for that long?"
"Yes. But I understand. I mean remember the sixth grade?" Rhiannon had started walking again, Matt following along.
"Yeah. But that's different. That was a silly little crush you had on me and I was being a total shithead."
"Well maybe it wasn't a silly little crush. Maybe it had stayed with me all these years. Maybe I spent years in Jersey wondering what possibly could've happened if my dad never got that job offer. Wondering if I could ever move on. Maybe the whole reason I started dating Joe was to kinda get over you. But here we are. Almost 7 years later, and I'm still not over you. No matter how much I tried."
"Are you being serious right now? You like me back?"
"Matt I've loved you since we were 12."
"Oh my god. What do we do now?"
"I don't really know. I do wanna heal myself a little bit before I jump into an entirely different relationship." Rhiannon stopped when she got to her front lawn. "But I wouldn't be opposed to starting a relationship with you Matt."
"I'll gladly wait for you. No matter how long it takes. I'll be here. Just let me know when your ready and I will make you the happiest person on earth." Matt looked her in the eyes and made it known how genuine he felt through his eyes. Rhiannon smiled at his words and knew that he truly meant what he said. It was a quiet understanding.
"Well goodnight dork." Rhiannon quickly pressed a kiss on Matt's lips.
"Are you just gonna start kissing me now?"
"Yup. It makes me feel a hell of a lot better than when I would kiss that asshole."
"No more of Joe, please." Matt held Rhiannon's face and kissed her. "Goodnight nerd."
Rhiannon stood there flabbergasted, but eventually started walking to her from door and waved the boy goodbye.
"Call me when you get home." she called out.
"I will." he smiled.
